Pours more of a dark chocolate brown than black with a a finger quick to fade beige colored head atop.Big sweetness in the nose, vanilla, mollases, and chocolate, some faint leafiness from hops linger as it warms a little.A little sharp in the mouth wich is odd for an oatmeal stout,I would think it would be fuller and creamier.Flavors of vanilla and some roasted nuts up front on the palate, there is a big shot of a somewhat burnt caramel flavor wich seems to take over the finish of the beer. This is a different kind of oatmeal stout here big on sweetness with different flavors that I don't normally comes across for the style, not horrible but not something I would seek out again.

On tap at the breweries tap house on 12/29/11.

Pours pitch black with a dense layer of brown head that has great retention. The nose has notes of coffee roasted malts and heavy toast. The taste is heavily toasty with faint notes of coffee and roasted malts and finishes with a diacetylic creaminess and an astringent bitterness. It is medium to full bodied, well carbonated, and smooth.

This is a decent beer, but a little hard to drink. The toast, diacetyl, and astringency make it hard to bear.

22oz. Fairly dark brown pour, some light tan head, fades to a few wisps.

Aroma, woody, bourbon, chocolates. Malt notes are a bit mild.

Taste, vanilla, some red fruit. Chocolate, caramel, cocoa. Peat. Turns to an ashy acre roast, mostly coffee. A bit harsh finishing.

About mid body, carbonation is a tad high. Abv is not that noticeable, but the harshness overbears quite a bit making this a chore to drink.
Can probably skip this one in all honesty.

Thanks to ASUBeer for the bottle!

Pours brown with a small mocha head that fades to a ring around the edge with slight lacing. Looks a little light for a stout.

Tons of molasses in the nose along with a heavy dose of caramel and maybe some vanilla.

A little bit chocolately up front and then the onslaught of sweetness hits. Heavy molasses and don't really get any barrel presence at all out of this one which is a shame because some booze could really cut the sweetness of this one.

Medium to full bodied. Decent creaminess, but it's a bit overcarbed for the style.

Really disappointed in this one. Hardly any barrel presence and the molasses is about the only real flavor in it. I could see how this one may have some potential if they get more of the barrel integrated into it as the base isn't too bad, just one note and sweet.

Poured from a bomber into a snifter, the beer pours a very dark, blackish coloring with a tall, dense, creamy, bubbly, cream-tan colored head. This head lingers quite a bit, too, making this a pretty beer. Small trails of carbonation throughout the body here and there, too. Aromas of booze forward, with rich sweetness of molasses, cocoa, vanilla, oak, and roasted notes. Smells rich and very layered, but not overpowering. Flavors are a little more heavily roasted forward, with a sharpness to the charred and boozy highlights. Coffee and very bitter chocolate forward, as well, with the vanilla and molasses notes coming in the background, but not with enough force to balance. This one is big in the bitter department, and the increased ABV combines to form an underlying sharpness in the otherwise robust, smooth body. Warmth builds as you go, and the aftertaste is a bittersweet blend that is more balanced than the palate experience thus far. More strength to the molasses and cream notes at the end. The finish is slick, crisp, with only a slight linger of rich sweet and booze. Solid brew, but a workout for your palate.
