12oz bottle served in a globe. Bottled in 2012

A- Pours a hazy amber color with a one finger, fast, white head. Good retention and lacing.

S- Bourbon, vanilla, toffee, leather, some oak, brown sugar and figs.

T- Smooth sweet bourbon. Little bit of oak tannin's. Vanilla, caramel and molasses.

M- Medium body, smooth finish. Leaves the sweet vanilla flavor of bourbon in your mouth. Good carbonation.

O- I got this as an extra with about 2 years on it. Not to sure what its like fresh but not bad with a little age. Solid barrel aged offering that characterizes the bourbon more than the barrel.

It's certainly a treat to get to try this one. I've heard great things but have never had the pleasure. Thanks, Andy (BeerFMAndy) for sending me a bottle of this!

Served in an Elysian snifter.

A: Poured a very dark, amber color, with a slight, sticky, white pepper-like head.

S: Butterscotch and coconut an then some. One would have to have a microscope to detect any sort of "American Amber/Red Ale" quality out of this.

T: Excellent flavor, even better than I expected even. Candy-like, not uber sweet, and not fake in any way.

M: Sticky and sweet, but not cloying. Low carbonation.

O: this is like an American Strong Ale redux. I dig it!

Louie's Resurrection was not the worst bourbon barrel aged beer I have had, but it probably falls near the bottom of the list. I had the base beer before the barrel aged version, and I like the base beer better. Go look at my review if you do not believe me.

The beer was a darker amber color than the base beer. The aroma was dominated be alcohol and vanilla, with the whiskey seemingly trying to burn my nose hairs. This is a bad sign from the start. In the initial taste, one gets a sour malty taste. The toasty malts that I liked in the base beer are gone. The alcohol from the bourbon barrel aging stings the tongue like a shot of whiskey. Malt seems to be a little more apparent as the burn continues into the aftertaste. There is some potential here, but I am not certain Milwaukee chose the best beer to barrel age in an amber ale.
