Making apple beer goes back to ancestral tradition. The Celts drank it in abundance during their harvest festivals. All we have done is extend the pleasure to the present day by adding the juice of several varieties of apples to our delicious lambic. The tasting experience, which is quite exceptional, combines the sweetness of cider with the sourness characteristic of lambic. The Americans are crazy about it, which is why they say, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away".

Pours an amber color with a touch of gold; funny enough, it looks like apple juice. Decent head, easily brought back to life by swirling the glass. The smell is heavy on the green apple and apple skins. And when I say heavy, I mean HEAVY. It smells like an apple orchard and not much else. Very sweet and tart aroma. The taste, as you probably already may have guessed, hits first with green apple. Tart and sour up front; think apple pucker or a green apple sucker. Once the tart sharpness subsides a bit, a sweetness comes through and washes everything over. A touch of funk is detectable in the background and definitely becomes more prominent as the beer gets warmer, but it is always secondary to the apple flavors. Very juicy and cider-like overall. Yeasty around the edges and leaving a slight yeast coating in the mouth, but not a great amount. Nothing notable on the grains or hops - they're certainly there, but it's hard to detect much else other than the apple and the very slight, corky funk. Thin body, lots of carbonation.

This stuff is tasty. But I'm slightly biased towards green apple. It doesn't have a strong beer character, and even the "lambic" notes are secondary to the tart and sweet flavors and aromas of the apple. This stuff is certainly delicious but I'd have to limit myself to one. Almost more of a juice than a beer.

Like the others, a bit of artificial "Jolly Rancher" green apple flavor over some subtle complex wild yeast flavors. So absurdly drinkable. Perfectly balanced - not overly sweet, bitter, tart, malty, hoppy. Fruity in a "green" way - not syrupy. Not super complex, not a great representation of a lambic, but more complex than your average cider. Perhaps this is just telling me I need to try more ciders, haha.

Poured from 8.45 oz bottle into tulip glass. Thin white head drops quickly, mild lacing. Color is hazy golden orange. Aroma of tart apples, spice, and yeast rolls. Mouthfeel is light and crisp. Flavor: tart apple, spices, sugar, bready malts. Overall: very good.

Smell: At first apples, then metal

Taste: Extremely sweet, like apple juice

Feel: Alright, just very light

Overall: Very good, just really sweet.

Look: Clear gold. One finger of foamy white head that quickly dissipates.

Smell: The classic sour barnyard funk of a lambic. Apple is barely discernable past the bacon.

Taste: Unlike the smell, strong sour apple flavor. Relatively little lambic funk, only what comes through on the scent as you sip.

Mouthfeel: Average body, very high carbonation.

Overall: If drinking a sour apple Jolly Rancher is your thing, here it is.

250ml bottle into a lindemans flute. Best by 7/2/23, fresh bottle.

Looks good enough. Pale golden body. Small white head shrinks to a fat collar, rings of lacing.

Musty barnyard aroma.

Sweet tart apple cider taste. Clean and refreshing, lambic aspect buried. Tasty though.

Mouth around medium, finish sweet tart apple.

Overall, pretty one dimensional. Could have told me I was drinking a cider and I would have believed you.

(250 ml bottle, L GG05UAP01101; purchased in a variety 4-pack... decanted into a teku)

L: polished-clear, gold liquid; the foam forming on the pour quickly recedes to a big-bubbled, webby collar

S: green apple Jolly Rancher, flesh of one Granny Smith... not much wheat/malt presence, maybe in the form of an apple danish?... very faint funky undertone... excellent expression and intensity; inviting

T: sweet apple juice, then immediately more earthy apple cider... very bright tartness, nearly exactly like biting into a Granny Smith... the aftertaste has a semblance of fruit juice, but is only vaguely sweet

F: the tartness does pucker a fair amount, also simulating a residual gummy film within the palate... seems a bit bottom-heavy and delicately viscous up front, but it mostly thins out in the finish... doesn't (but should?) display lively effervescence

O: arguably more true to its fruit than the Peche version I reviewed the other day... this is maybe my 2nd or 3rd time trying this... I could handle it if need be but, again, seems like this would go best in a pairing, preferably a spicy, zesty salad with vinaigrette, sharp cheese, and candied pecans? (1958)

Apple cider. Had I not bought it myself, I would've thought it was overly sweet apple cider. Crystal clear, smells delicious, but tastes like apple cider. Not a hint of lambic-ness in this. Refreshing though.

250 ml bottle poured into a snifter, split with my wife. Pours a slightly hazy straw yellow with a nice off-white head. Aroma and flavor feature tart/sweet apple (though you could tell me it was pear and I'd believe you), light malt, and just a bit of wild funk and oak tannins. Mouthfeel is spritzy and light, but not thin. Overall it's a fantastic wild fruited sour, though only about 10% of the way towards being a funky lambic.
