Appearance 4.25: Poured out a gorgeous, deep ruby red. Unfiltered, there are lots of particulate materials floating around in the brew, including...raspberry seeds! Beautiful light pink head and good lacing.
Smell 4.50: Wow! Amazing bouquet on this brew. Raspberries, yes, but a deep, condensed smell of raspberries. Also hints of sour yeast and some light grain references.
Taste 4.25: Front is slightly sweet and lightly sour. This transitions seamlessly into the middle, where a huge wave of grain and raspberry goodness swamps the palate. This fades quickly into the finish, which is where a tartness from the raspberries comes in to counter the sweetness. Also, there is a very pleasant "wild" taste here, probably from the yeast. So many tastes at this level including an almost perfumy fruit essence almost like raspberry jam reduction. Aftertaste is fabulous as well and is similar to eating fresh raspberries, along with a certain bitterness from the beer.
Mouthfeel 3.75: Nice mouthfeel. Certainly accentuates the enjoyment of the beer, but may be a bit too effervescent for some.
Overall 4.25: Just an amazing representative of the style of fruit lambics. At every level of sensory enjoyment, this beer is outstanding. Not perfect by any means, but nonetheless fabulous. Highly recommended for fans of this style of Belgian beers.
