Served in a Lindemans lambic flute.
Pours a clear red (the ver definition of the word red) with a small pinkish-white head that leaves a bit of lacing as it settles to a thickness of a third-of-a-finger. The smell is of dry, fresh cherries, with a sparkling background (I've no other way to say that...). The taste is mostly the same, but the cherries are now moist, fuller, more pronounced, with a slight hint of yeasty earthiness near the base. It doesn't sit very heavily on the tongue, and the carbonation is light and unintrusive, making for a highly drinkable and highly tasty brew.

Lindemans Kriek pours with cranberry cocktail colour and clarity (and, arguably, contains as much real fruit). The distinguishing feature, of course, of this and any good Kriek is the rosy-pink froth - which this bottle, and now the glass too, has in abundance. A beer that is so simultaneously bright, dense, and vivid in colour is a beautiful beer indeed.
It's hard to say what's appreciated more on the nose: cherries or sugar. There's a staggering amount of both. The brewery claims to use black cherries but this smells more like something you'd find floating on top of a milkshake; there's nothing dark or tart here, it's bright maraschino red all the way. That and a lot of sugar white.
Indeed, Lindemans Kriek is quite evidently not a beer for diabetics. Depending on where in the world you're buying it don't be surprised to find things like fructose (corn syrup), cherry flavouring, or the dubious 'sugar substitute' next to cherry juice on the ingredients list. It would take a heck of a lot of cherries to achieve this much sweet fruitiness.
In fact, brewing purely with real cherries would more likely result in tartness rather than sweetness. Their pits tend to lend an almond-like taste while, like you'd expect rotting fruit to do, the cherries themselves turn borderline sour and impart a fermented funkiness (which a lambic already characteristically has). This, however, has little of any of that.
It's true: Lindemans Kriek is more fruit juice than lambic, and more sugar than fruit juice. The initial impression of cranberry cocktail turns out to actually be pretty spot on - mostly candy-like, syrupy sweetness and only a superficial, token amount of the fruit's true tartness. It's still an absolute pleasure to drink but, make no mistake, 'tis no true lambic.

Poured into a Stange.
Not always a big fan of cherries, but lambics are a style I desperately need to try more of. So here goes with the most ready brand out there.
A: Pours a transparent ruby-red with a small amount of carbonation rising through the center to a faintly red head that builds up early, takes its time dissipating and leaves a detailed lacing.
S: Tart and sweet, but really all I get out of it is cherry syrup. Not my favorite.
T: This is a beautifully pleasant taste that is tart, malty and reminds me just as much of granny-smith apples as it does cherries. A great taste that I have to downgrade a little bit for the overly-syrupy aftertaste that lingers just a little too strong.
M: The feel of this lambic though is fantastic. Dry and perfectly carbonated, it really accents and compliments the flavors. It's also thin bodied and doesn't add any unnecessary weight to the light beer.
O: This is a very vibrant and refreshing beer. Strong flavors and a great feel carry this beer past its mistakes and make it a solid fruit beer.
