look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Appearance: Deep purple color with fluffy pink head.

Smell: Aroma is very similar to sparkling grape juice.

Taste: Very much like a red wine, but I'm probably mistaking the currant flavors for grape flavors. If there was yeast in red wine, it would probably taste like this. I dub this yeast-wine. It's also sweet, but not too sweet. Tart, but not too tart.

Mouthfeel: Tingly carbonation accompanies a medium body.

Drinkability: Not too sweet to have a couple, but this is really is best suited as a dessert beverage.

Notes: This is my favorite of the Lindemans fruit lambics. Not nearly as sweet as the peche Lindemans; not quite as tart as the kriek. The cassis somehow is the most wine-like, but also the most lambic qualities of the three Lindemans I've tried. It is the most yeasty of the three and has the best balance between sweetness, tartness, and mild funkiness. In a word, it's delicious!

Bottle poured into a Lindemans 200th Anniversary wine glass. Cloudy, darker fuschia color, topped with a full two fingers of pinkish-lavender head, which receded mostly but never completely disappeared, leaving random specks of lacing on the glass. In the nose, berries and more berries, somewhat vinous, with a little musty funk. Not bad. A little bit of puckering tartness up front in the taste, giving way to a wave of sweetness, currants and grapes, candy, jam, Jolly Ranchers, Juicy Juice...overload, simply too sweet. A subtle grassy finish. Let's just call this a fruit beer, not a lambic. Medium body, mouthfeel was syrupy with sweetness, but still had a tart twinge that kept the drinkability decent. Overall, I'd say maybe it's a good dessert beer, but not something I'd purposely buy again. I really just wanted something from Lindemans I hadn't tried yet to christen my glasswale.

This review is based on comparative lambic beers. This is a really good cassis (black currant) beer. It is less tart than a kriek and a little more sweet. If you enjoy a rouge or sour but one with less bite then you will enjoy this one. I am still comparing the Lindemanns and Timmermanns but right now they are comparable.

Pours a rich ruby amber, with minuscule head and minimal lace.

Aroma is tart berries, both sour and quite appealing.

Taste is up-front tart berries again, with plenty of sourness. Really quite tasty and, after so many hoppy beers, this rich, complex, and delicious beer proved a welcome change from the norm. I'd drink this again, easily.

I don't drink many lambics due to the fact that I'm not a true fan, however, I have a friend who is determined to change my mind. Thank you Tim.

Into a stange.

A: purple/pink colored body that starts off with a finger's worth of a foamy white head; lacing is sporadic and clingy all around

S: starts off with some raspberry, and as she warms, there's a light blueberry combining to mainly make it semi-sweet but yet carries a somewhat tart/sour connotation to it

T: raspberry and blueberry combination of tart to sweet balance-ness, gets kinda juicy (must be authentic); sweet sticky aftertaste; watery juicy finish. Sidenote: my wife tasted and really liked it.

M: light to medium sort of body with a somewhat softer carbonation to it, and somewhat sessionable.

O: huh, well how about that, a lambic I could drink again. Gee, I guess I have a lot to learn about this style. It didn't come across as too vinous, overly tart or too sour. Interesting. I think I just might have this again after all.
