Presentation: 12oz green mini Champagne-style bottle, capped and corked. Bottled on 2-3-2012. Poured into a Chimay glass.
Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy goldenrod hue, with a creamy ivory cap which shows nice retention. Peppy carbonation.
Smell: Well, my wife says it smells like skunk farts. While I have to disagree with her, it is DEFINITELY funky and wild. Lots of earthy and tart funk, herbal, grassy notes, and some citrus as well. Bold and bright.
Taste: Lots of citrus, chalky mineral notes, earthy funk, a hint of Sweet Tart candy, and maybe just a ghostly note of sulfur. Lightly sweet one second, and dry, light-to-medium sour, and a touch bitter the next. Reasonably complex, challenging, and intriguing.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, tart, and a little chalky on the finish.
Overall: At $6.99 a 12oz or $11.99 a 750 (esp. the second option) this is a (at least to this Gueuze newbie's palate) a challenging, interesting, and refreshing traditional wild ale.
