Poured gently from a bottle into a pint glass. Appearance is clear gold with a nice thin frothy head. The nose when undisturbed has a nice stony champagne-like aroma of sour apples. When swirled and aerated, the beer takes on its characteristic funky odor.

The beer has a soft, brief, wheaty note in the front of the mouth, then quickly becomes an intense sour apple. There is not hop profile to speak of, just a mouth-drying, puckery tartness. The taste is slightly grainy and has faint notes of sour apple, pear, and grapes. The dryness gives the beer a wine-like acidic character. The carbonation is moderately high and the mouthfeel is thin-to-firm (ideal for the flavor).

I don't have a lot of experience with this style (this was my first one), and since I want to store some gueuze in my basement I figured I had better try one first to see how I like it. It is tart and refreshing and quite enjoyable, though something I would want to drink only occasionally.

355 ml bottle (packaged 3/11) into a (512) chalice.

A yellowish-golden apple juice color sparkles in the sunlight, with an endless supply of carbonation streaming upward through the clear body. Head is well retained and pearly white. The aroma is an intoxicating blend of funk: wet paper, leather, earth, white grape rinds, and a hint of lemony tartness in the background.

The flavor left me longing for more sour (especially after a year in the bottle), but the tartness is there along with fresh-cut wood and melon rind. The body is juicy, yet equally dry on the finish with no room for lingering flavors. Carbonation is spot-on, making the mouthfeel light and crisp. Overall, a tasty Gueuze that really caught me by surprise. I bought this on a whim, and was glad to see it outshine Lindemans' sugary-sweet counterparts (framboise, kriek, etc.).

vintage 2010 (july)

pours a hazy golden orange. massive head just eats up the space in this tulip. slowly dissipates. lots of foam.

very vibrant. heavy on the lemon and oak, mainly oak though. slight funky backbone.

mild flavor, light flavors of lemon and apple. oak is very dominant. nothing besides the oak really stands out. would like to see more depth to the flavor.

lots of tingle from a very lively carbonation. light and easy.

decent gueuze, but in this price range i would pass for a few others.

Beer bottle (37,5 cl., vintage 2010) purchased from Le Souffleur de bières, and tasted in 2012.

Appearance : medium yellow color, with white foamy head (not persistent).
Smell : sour fruity aromas.
Taste & mouthfeel : tart flavours, round but very dry, sparkling.
Drinkability : a very good beer in the style traditional Gueuze. Drunk "too young" but at cellar t°.

For the price you really can't beat this Gueze.

While I prefer Consecration and many of the RR sours this is still very good.

The pour is a real light tangerine/yellow with ample head. I've had bottles with much sediment and others bare. Not sure why, but I've noticed this a lot.

I've also had a bottle that was sour beyond recognition. This is a Gueze that should always be in the refrigerator when you are drinking without a special event.

says it's bottled August 13th 2012. Not really sure what this could mean. I guess it's best by that date?

appearance - orange with a little haze. White frothy head.

smell - earthy, funky, tart, bretty. Citrus

taste - green apple and citrus like lemon rinds dominate the flavor. A bit sweet malt in the middle balanced with some oak, not as acidic as expected and actually finishes mouth watering.

mouthfeel - thin mouthfeel with low carbonation. Could use a few extra months in the bottle as is suggested by the bottle itself.

overall - I love the apple and citrus notes. I bought this at my local liquor store and it was only $7.99. I think that this is an amazing value for this beer. It's balanced, and tart, and mouthwateringly delicious. I'm probably going to pick up a bunch more of this. Great entry level sour.

Picked up a bottle of this at Austin Liquors roughly 2 years

A - Poured into my Duvel tulip a crystal clear golden light amber hue atop which was a nice two finger off white head that faded to leave a big, fat almost one finger blanket!

S - Very nice citrus (lemon), apples, and some light oak.

T - Lots of green apple and bright lemon sour/tartness. A nice funky barnyard with a rather sharp funky almost metallic finish.

M - Mouthfeel is very light and bubbly. Perfect amount of carbonation. Nice sour finish.

O - Overall this is a very enjoyable and easily accessabe gueuze. Lots of really solid aspects too his gueuze. Very nice.
