Pours a light tangerine color with a distinct cloudiness and some sediment collecting at the bottom of the glass. A white head, well developed but receding quickly, leaves a whipped foam kind of ring and some scattered film. No lace.
Smell is a nice mixture of funk, yeast, malt, light fruit, and freshly cut wood. Well balanced and very enticing.
Taste is seriously tart with notes of malt, fresh wood, yeast, some pear and apple. A fine balance.
Very effervescent, tangy, acidic to some extent. Reminiscent of a champagne to my palate. Dry from the pour until long after the swallow is done. A 750 solo may not have been my best idea but it's something I'll just have to do. (676 characters)

750 ml green glass (ugh) bottle with gold foil-ed over branded copper colour pry-off pressure cap (which is itself sealed over an internally housed cork) acquired at a local CO bottle shop and served into a La Chouffe stem-tulip in me parents' gaff in high altitude Castle Rock, Colorado. Reviewed live. Expectations are high given its current ratings. Reviewed as a gueuze lambic because the label clearly identifies it as such.

Bottled: 22 Mei 2013.

Served cold, straight from the fridge, and allowed to warm over the course of consumption. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: No bubble show forms as it's poured.

Pours a four finger wide head of white colour. Decent thickness. Not too creamy, but pretty fluffy. No lacing clings to the sides of the glass as the head recedes. Head retention is good - about 4-5 minutes.

Body colour is a clear translucent copper of above average vibrance. Appears well-carbonated. No floating yeast particles or sediment is visible.

Overall, it's a pretty standard appearance for a gueuze. I'm looking forward to trying it, but it isn't unique or special.

Sm: Faint berries. Maybe raspberry? Crystal malt. Fantastic lambicus yeast character bursting with sourness without coming off puckering. Not as bacterial as many other sours; it isn't loaded with straight lactobacillus; the sourness has a purpose and a defined character. Clean barley. Belgian pale malts. Golden malts. Light hints of flaked wheat. Maybe some lychee. Sourness doesn't seem too high; I doubt this will induce puckering. Hopping is floral. Apple cidre vinegar.

No alcohol is detectable. A pleasant, inviting, alive aroma of average strength. There's obvious acidity.

T: Sour green apple/apple cidre vinegar. Lovely lambicus yeast-induced sourness. Not so sour as to pucker, but enough to please fans of the style. Belgian pale and golden malts provide the unobtrusive, admittedly simple base. Pleasantly acidic. Some lighter notes of wet hay and clean barley do make an appearance. I don't get much in terms of bacterial character, but there is some light restrained funkiness, which gets buried underneath the sourness. It does have a nice lactic quality. I've never really craved funkiness in a sour beer anyway. The hops get buried beneath the lambic sourness (to style).

Balanced, if admittedly simple and straightforward for a lambic. It's a bit sweeter than I'd expect for a gueuze; maybe they used too much young lambic in the blend? I'd like more sourness; it's not intense to style. Cohesive, and almost gestalt but not quite. The lambicus yeast certainly guides the flavour profile, and rightfully so. It's a bit tart; I'd like more of that. Average depth and duration of flavour for the style. Below average intensity of flavour. Nice complexity and subtlety, but there's lots of room for improvement. Not a nuanced or intricate gueuze. I'm a bit disappointed, but it's pleasant enough.

No alcohol or hop character comes through. No spice. No off flavours.

Mf: Smooth and wet, with slight coarseness to coax out more flavour. Perfect carbonation; bottle conditioning has done it well. Refreshing and approachable. Not as acidic as would be ideal. Has a nice smacky feel. Great presence on the palate; it's very welcoming, soft, and comforting.

Not oily, harsh, astringent, gushed, hot, boozy, or rough.

Dr: Satisfying for what's probably the most widely available gueuze, but the discerning drinker will find this rather tame for the style. Sour intensity is quite low. I'm a bit alarmed by its current high ratings; maybe this has been better in the past or varies by bottle. Certainly a gueuze varies by batch. In any case, it's a very drinkable gueuze that any sour-lover could easily kill a bottle of. I might get it again if I'm craving a sour and this is the only decent offering at a bottle shop/bar. Might be interesting aged.

Outside of Cantillon, this is the best gueuze I have ever tried. While I have enjoyed the fruitier lambics from Lindemans, this is clearly their masterpiece. A complex classic, with crisp, citrus flavors; a refreshingly bitter, dry tartness; and long lasting finish. (266 characters)

Poured from a 12floz on 19 Oct 2013, bottled: 06 Juli 2012.

A - Hazy golden orange perforated by a swarm of little specks of yeast. Nice bubbly lacing hangs out topside.

S - An inviting tanginess greets the nose, flanked by a layed-back funkiness. Sweet white grapes are present as well as hints of sour apricot. One is left in no doubts about the acidity which is to come.

T - My first experience of this style and I definitely like it. The closest thing I've ever had to this is Petrus Aged Ale. Tastes follows the nose hear; grapes kick the door down. Champagne, stale yeast, citric acid.

M - Tastes fuzzy rather than bubbly.

O - Sour beers really do it for me, so I liked this beer quite a lot, almost by default. Having said that, I felt like as an experience it fell a bit flat; both in terms of looking for a more complex tasting experience as well as a more lively and satisfying mouthfeel. Expected a slightly higher quality brew such as that of the aforementioned Petrus. I can imagine having a gueuze which will really knock my socks off though. Bring on the Cantillon/3F! (1,089 characters)

very musky sour. excellent carbonation. bottled 11 months prior to tasting. light color, clear until you get to the bottom of the bottle pour then cloudy. slighty sour from front to back but not intensely tart like some other sours. for the price a excellent beer. mild hints of apple and grass. will be buying a few more and cellaring to see what a few more years does. (370 characters)

From a 375 ml bottle into a snifter.

A: Hazy gold with a nice tight bubbled three finger head that breaks down slowly.

S: sour or tart with some grassyness and funk to it as well.

T: A pleasant tartness, white wine vinegar, the grassyness and funk found in the nose also come through as well.

M: crisp and refreshing, almost dry. The carbonation is fine and enjoyable, champagne like.

O: really quite an enjoyable beer. My first experience with the type and I want more. I find the tartness and funkyness to be so very different than what I am used to drinking. It is a great and exciting change of pace that I will seek out in the future. (648 characters)

A warm sourness permeates throughout your mouth. Slight yeast flavor, but the tartness overcomes. Oily like butter. Very sharp and almost musty. The flavor of this thing pops, I mean just POPS. Amazing. Tastes like: fresh leather, sour apricot, non salted popcorn. 92/100 (271 characters)

Poured from a 750 ml bottle into a La Trappe goblet.

A- Pours a hazy, golden body with a gushing white head. Some settling, so pour it slowly.

S- Smells very tart with sour apples and citrus aromas, yeast, belgian funk, grassy.

T- This is quite impressive! The first thing that hits the tongue is a tart, borderline sour note that is reminiscent of lemon juice, white wine vinegar, and grapefruit. Next up is barnyard funk and yeast, and the finish is tart like citrus zest and fruit skins.

M- Light-ish, high carbonation and pretty effervescent. Crisp and refreshing.

Who would have known that Lindemans made such a great Gueze. Pick it up if you're getting into this style of beer, as this is an EXCELLENT representation of the style. (745 characters)

375mL bottle

I never mention bitterness in my reviews, my bitterness taste buds are ridiculously under-
sensitive.

APPEARANCE : Beautiful blond colour with lively champagne-like carbonation rising to form a slightly off-white head which starts off huge, almost gusher-like, and then calms and drops back to almost nothing. Almost no lacing to speak of.

SMELL : First nose has some citrus, but mostly barnyard funk, yeasts and some hay. Slight metallic tinge. Second nose opens a rich woody aroma. Third nose calms down the citrus and funks and definitely brings out the yeast profile. Beautiful.

TASTE : Acidity is present, but backed up by a real freshness. Citrus and herbs are also present, but not so much as the nose seemed to announce. The wood that was present on the nose almost completely disappears once in the mouth.

MOUTHFEEL : Great carbonation, fine bubbles, more ample than champagne. You get the kind of earthy/dusty feeling so typical of the barnyard funk.

OVERALL : One of the best balanced gueuze I've had the pleasure of drinking. I'm aging a few of I have left, see what happens with this big boy in a few years' time. I'll probably chuck out another review. (1,186 characters)

Bottled April of 2013 so it's quite new for a Gueuze

A - Pours a dirty brown color with just a 1/4 inch of head that quickly faded to nothing but a ring.
S - White wine vinegar, Tart/sour apple, some grains and fruity yeasts. Even has a bit of muskiness,
T - Intense sour lemon and vinegar. at first then quickly to mild sweetness from the grains, some mild oak and grass. Taste like granny smith apple cider in a while. Not real hops but man is this beer sour!
M - Light to medium in body, intense sour with mild apple and oak finish.

Overall this is my first Gueuze and I don't think I will be "addicted" to sours considering the hefty 8 dollar admission. But it was overall a great experience. (698 characters)

Got a bottle of this as a gift from a rare find in life, a brother-in-law who is also a friend. This was my first venture into the world of Belgian Gueuze. And I'm most happy with the results.

Before opening the bottle I read up on this style and the Brouwerij brewery in Belgium. An amazing style with an even more amazing history.

The 355 ml. bottle was capped normally and also had a cork reflecting the secondary bottle fermentation process common to this style. The bottle had a date stamp of 10/6/2011.

Poured into a tulip beer glass with a cloudy amber color and a thick, lacy, whitish head.

Lots of aromas going on here from sour citrus to wet grain, to apple cider vinegar.

The first thing that hits the tongue is a moderate sweet taste of fruit and then sour acidic taste with a grainy, yeast presence through the finish. There's a lot going on here. Very structured and complex.

The beer has a rich creamy mouth feel with enough carbonation to support the complex taste profile.

I liked this beer. It is something that I will seek out to try again. (1,069 characters)

Either everyone keeps getting amazing bottles and mine are terrible or their is something seriously wrong with my tastebuds. This review summarizes two bottles purchased several years apart from one another.

A: Both times a gorgeous hazy yellow color.

S: The first bottle, heavy barnyard funk with a bit of urine. The second time light barnyard funk and a faint bitterness.

T: The first bottle, heavy sour with an incredible cat piss flavor, instant drain pour. The second bottle almost non-existent sourness, incredibly light hay flavors, and a bit of bitterness, almost no flavor to speak of. The second bottle was improved with cherry juice to improve it and make it very drinkable.

M: Both bottles have an excellent fizzy mouthfeel and a nice light-medium body.

O: I feel like these bottles are a bit of a crapshoot. While I'm aware lambics/guezes can be highly variable in flavors based on the random bacteria introduced, if the results are not drinkable then why would they bottle a particular batch. Considering other mass available sours available, this is a terrible choice, with a much better choice being the Duchesse de Bourgogne. (1,147 characters)

Pours a hazed deep golden brown with a robust cream head that slowly dissipates, leaving sheets of lacing.

Big lactic sourness on the front, with subtler floral notes underneath.sharp citrus notes dominate, but there's an underlying sweetness and slightly musty barnyard character that add complexity.

Flavor is initially reminiscent of sweettarts, though the lightly dry finish and dominant sourness reign in the flavor. Acetic acid and a hint of horse blanket are present. Definitely as sour as I had hoped. Light phenols emerge as it warms, adding a little complexity to the dominant lemon flavor.

Body is moderate, with slightly high carbonation and light alcohol warmth.

Little bit of funk, lots of sour, and enough malt presence to tie things together. Lacks slightly in character compared to some, but a good sour for those who are into that sort of thing. (868 characters)

My first foray into gueuze-land. Corked bottle pours a honey amber with the froth you would expect from this style. Aroma is acidic, funky, sour fruit, some barnyard with vinous overtones like balsamic vinegar. Taste starts with lemon and pina colada, quickly shifts to sour vinegar, ripe honey, white grape, gooseberry, unripe bramble fruit, all tied together by an earthy funk that at times veers into unpleasant pukey territory but this is probably my inexperience with lambic. Its gets better and more interesting as I tough it out. All acid and no bitter. This has a reputation as a good "starter" gueuze and I'd recommend it as such. Morbidly curious regarding what a more advanced gueuze would taste like. Underneath the sour persists a pleasant tropical fruitiness and some cork. Not too hard to track down if you want to dabble in this style. (851 characters)

Corked bottle. Bottled on date: 08 Nov. 2011. Poured into a wine glass.

Appearance: A nice satisfying "pop" from the cork. Very hazy amber to light orange. Very minimal head, quickly dissipating and leaving little lacing on the glass. Lots of small bubbles; almost looks like stars twinkling in the sky.

Smell: Even before I put my nose to it, I can smell the funk. With my nose in the glass, I also pick up a lot of green apple and apple cider vinegar, as well as oak and even more barnyard funk. There is also a surprisingly fruity sour note.

Taste: Where to begin. The first thing I noticed was the funk, and a lot of it. It seems like a common note that holds all of the other flavors together, leading to a very nice and complex balance. Following the nose, there is also green apple and some sour and tart red fruit, maybe raspberry. As I keep sipping, there is woody oak and some wine like tannins, mixed with balsamic and vinegar. When the beer warms a bit, some sea salt and yeast flavors emerge, only to become even more dominated by horseblanket and funk.

Mouthfeel: Medium to low carbonation, but this might be in part due to the bottling age. The beer is very crisp with a creamy body. The finish is long, mouthpuckering, sour. and lively. It just goes on forever.

Overall: So, so good. The price is right, the beer is incredibly complex while remaining balanced, with none of the flavors overpowering the others; they all work together like a symphony. I would definitely buy this again. This is what beer should be. I don't know what else I can say about it. (1,583 characters)

A: Golden hue. Large, cascading, foamy, white head. Tons of rising effervescence. Craters slowly and unevenly, forming dry peaks and valleys as it does. Plenty of sticky, spiderweb lacing.

S: Sour raspberry and sourdough bread.

T: Sour indistinct fruits accentuate a sour bready base.

M: Sour and bitter on the palate. A little mouth-puckering. Dry, pungent finish.

D: Sip and savor. The character will dictate it.

Atmosphere is really good. Great head, and plenty of lacing. Nose is sour fruits and bread. Tastes like it smells... bready grains accentuated with sour fruity tones. Overall, this is a really good quaff. (678 characters)

A: It pours a hazy amber with a thin white head. Lots of visible carbonation.

S: The aroma is slightly woody, with strong notes of vinegar. Light fruity notes as well (apple, lemon.)

T: extremely tart. lemons and vinegar. Light woody notes again. There is also a mild bitterness on the finish.

M: clean, refreshing. Light bodied, with less carbonation than I expected.

A fairly mild and refreshing sour. It has a pleasant floral cheese quality to it. It pours a clear golden color with a little bit of head. It is lightly sweet up front and then a mild sour that doesn’t linger for very long. it has a light thin and lively body. Not my favorite sour but definitely a good one. (310 characters)

Good to see these finally popping up everywhere in the Bay. Poured out of a 11.2oz corked bottle into a tulip glass. The bottling date is screwed up, but there is a place on the label where it's supposed to go. Ehh, no worries - if anything has the longest shelf life, it's an oude gueuze.

Pours a golden amber color complete with a foamy off-white head and tons of bubbles. Looks very soda-like in terms of carbonation, and indeed, the foam fizzes out pretty quickly as well. Some sediment eventually creeps in with additional pours, producing a cloudier looking offering. Definitely viscous and vinous looking overall, which is a plus. Not as syrupy looking as their other offerings, but that's to be expected, as this is their only unsweetened product that they have left.

The nose is quite pungent and musty, and exactly what I'd expect in the classic gueuze style. Aromas range from wet straw, lemon peel, dried white raisins, apricots, and farmhouse must. Slightly mineral-y on the nose as well, almost resembling limestone or something similar. The sourness is very well pronounced at this point, and is held back well with the grainy, bready character underneath. Great stuff overall.

The flavor continues the same profile, only far more creamier and carbonated that I expected. There's the predominant wet hay flavor, as well as notes of citrus, vinous white grape qualities, and a little bit of mustiness and sweetness that is cut by the malts at the end. Really bready, actually - almost surprisingly so. As this warms up it begins to resemble the same yeasty sensation you get in higher end sparking wines, and added to the floral hoppy character, as well as the wild bacteria, this turns out to be pretty satisfying and a charm to drink. It never goes flat, although it does get a little syrupy as it gets warmer. Nothing too complex, but integrates the flavors I love in gueuzes quite well.

This is probably the best affordable oude gueuze on the market - I believe I paid $7 or so for this. I do wish Lindemans had kept working these sour, musty aromas in their fruit-based beers, as they have a great rustic profile. Oh well, at least there's Cuvée René. Recommended - much better than other large gueuze makers in Belgium. (2,245 characters)

Pours with a huuge head. The head is white, foamy, and just sits on top of the beer forever. The beer itself is a pale yellow color with loads of carbonation, I can definitely see why Gueuze is known as the champagne of Belgium.

The nose is quite subtle, it is lightly vinegary but not nearly as "in your face" as some other sours.

This beer is fairly sour, I would put this at a 8/10. Its pretty damn tasty, and if it was much more acidic, I probably wouldn't like it so much. The beer starts out with just a hint of sweetness and this is immediately obliterated by an acidic sourness. In my opinion this beer is on an equal footing with Cantillon Gueuze, its that damn good.

This is a DEFINITE buy again. For $10.99 it is the cheapest, and in my opinion, one of the best, gueuze's on the market. (800 characters)

a: Hazy dark golden color; poured with a medium sized fizzy head.

s: Musty grains, apple cider vinegar (more vinegar than apple), lemon rind, and some fairly pronounced woody aromas.

t: Very tart, but more heavy than refreshing if that makes sense. Strong, lingering woody notes mingle with green apples and tart wheat.

m: Light carbonation makes this feel heavy overall.

o: Leaps and bounds better than their sweet lambics, this doesn't measure up to other geuezes. (494 characters)

Appearance: Pours a hazy yellow orange color with 2 fingers of a white head. Body is slightly hazy with moderate levels of carbonation streaming throughout the glass.

Smell: Musty, barnyard funk, oak, green apple.

Taste: Tart apple and pear, musty, oak, hay, some lactic acidity.

Mouthfeel: Light and crisp with high carbonation. Super dry finish.

Overall: I was pleasantly surprised by this. This has all of the sourness and funk that's missing from Lindeman's fruit lambics. If you're a fan of the style, this is a great bang for your buck. (604 characters)

Pours a cloudy light orange with a big 2" white head. Clumpy head sits atop beer.

Lemon and rind aromas, earthiness, Brett, funk, barnyard.

Tart lemons, light pale malts, earthy light bitterness, more tart citrus.

A- Turbid gold with pale yellow highlights. Lots of sediment. Fizzy off white head retains well, slight lacing.

S- Tart, fruity and musty aroma. Pretty funky overall, but very interesting. I'm intrigued.

T- Sour, lemon without a looming tang finish, and then a bit of an apple crispness.

M- Fairly light, nice tingly fizziness, and loads of pucker. Lip smacking.

O- My first gueuze. And it was a very pleasant experience. Drinking this has opened a world of beer attributes to me. I think that's why this style is so interesting. The blend of flavors and aromas are exclusive to the gueuze. (654 characters)

Appearance: Holy crap, this has not lost a STEP. Crisp, assertive carbonation, huge, firm, peaked head, clear, slightly orange gold, bit of haze.

Smell. Ah, perfect. Nice rainwater yeast funk, tart fruit, tight malt. Again, no signs of wear and tear.

Taste: Oooh, that's crisp. Predominant tart citrus with a bit of white pepper and sweet yeast spice. Not a ton going on, but it hits the spot.

Mouthfeel: Light and tight. Jesus, that carbonation has not missed a beat, SO crisp.

Overall: Good news—it's still great. Bad news—the aging didn't seem to do a thing for it, tastes almost exactly like a fresh one. Still, definitely enjoyed it. (795 characters)
