undated bottle, poured into champagne flutes.

A- Pours a crisp transparent brown amber, some sparkling bubbly head forms.

S- Tart unripe green apples, a pretty funky & wild tone, a mild sweetness. A little dirty earthy aroma.

T- Very sweet. Doesn't match smell. A light tartness on top of heavy sweet apple juice.

M- Pretty intense on palate. bold, lingers well. Slightly acidic on teeth, wet on tongue.

O- A good take on this lambic varietal. Very easy to drink, but far to sweet for me. The girlfriend liked it quite a bit.

We split a bottle, screwing the cork and pouring into our tasting snifters. It shows a golden brown coloring, with only a film of a creamy tan head to show for. Spots of lacing replace this, but they are far and few in between. No haze or sediment are appreciated, but carbonation appears to be high. The aroma is both sweet and salty, giving notes of candied walnuts, strawberry and raspberry fruitiness, hot balsamic vinegar, oaky woodiness, musk and dust, white sugar, fermented red apples, wildly souring tart yeastiness, cucumber skins, and chemical chlorine bite. The taste to follow is immensely sweet. Flavor hails from syrupy cherry, strawberry, and raspberry sugars, with hollow plastics, glossed printer paper, white sugar, vinegar acidity, tart barnyard yeastiness, mild graphite, metallics and mineral-laden soil, tweed, commercial honey, and sweet, seeded raspberry jam. The body is light, but syrupy and thick when it comes to slurp, smack, and finishing pop. The mouth is left fully coated and satiated, with no real dryness. The abv is easy, and the beer drinks back like candy.

Overall, this was a nice experience. Although faros as a style are sweet, with cloying amounts of added sugars, Lindemans sure knows how to make a crazy sweet beer. This beer, for us, functions more as an after-dinner aperitif, much like a port or sticky brandy. We didn’t find any aspect of it to be offensive, but it is about as refreshing as a tall, warm glass of merlot. There is enough tartness from the yeast to help curb the large base of cloy, but again, the ultimate picture shows that stylistically, they did things right, without too much in one direction or the other.
