French beer tour #4
Pour slightly chilled in tulip glass
A: dark clear amber color; little head but good carbonation; not much lacing
S: stinks at first, then dissipates into rather bland but not offense yeast aroma
T: the flavor redeems the smell; beautiful tart apples barge in; really nice balance of fruit, booze, carbonation, and sourness; virtually no hops; very appetizing, and enjoyable
Worth trying again, but let it stand for a bit, so you don't have to deal with the poor aroma.

(bottle date 19 Jul 2010, stored in fridge most of that time(?) - poured into a tulip)
A: clear, sunset orange-y amber liquid... head fizzed out fast at first pour - stayed around maybe 30-45 sec on final pour... no retention aside from a thin collar, little-to-no lace
S: overripe honeydew rind... light crystal malty... bit of a spicy floral aroma in the back... anticipation of candy-sweetish fruit flavors apparent
T: briefly tart on the tip of the tongue, noticeably sweet, blandly sour on the edges... the aged, musty-funky notes hit immediately before sipping and linger on the perimeters of the palate in the aftertaste while the honey-berry-juicy sweetness coats the palate, retaining more of its light caramelized flavors than candy flavors, while its dullish tartness holds almost enough to balance
M: round, fullish, vinous-like body, delicate sudsy wash... perhaps a bit heavier than desirable, but I haven't had any other Faro to compare it to
O: if you've a sweet tooth, this is a fine lil treat - thankfully, not quite the intensity of sugars as in their fruited lambics... suppose it held up fine after ~4 years
