This one was on-tap at the McKenzie Brew House in Glen Mills on 5/17/2008. It was served to me in a Pilsner glass. The specifications of this beer is 13.6 Plato, 5.8% ABV, and 18 IBUs.
This Smoked Porter poured a dark chocolate black with some ruby red highlight shining through at the bottom and along the sides. The tan head of foam was a bit on the small side, but at least it left behind a tan film and a few tan colored spots of lace. The aroma put "Smoked" into Smoked Porter. The aroma to this beer was smoky with smoked malts, bitter dark chocolate, a slight touch of smoked meats, and a hint of smoked beechwood in the background. The taste was lightly smoky with bitter dark chocolate, dark roasted malts, a hint of coffee, a small touch of olives, and this smoky Porter ended with dry and roasted bitter hops. The mouthfeel is more toward the medium side that contained a slightly dry smoky aftertaste of roasted malts, coffee, and dark chocolate. It wasn't as smoky as a Rauchbier, but it was smoky for a Porter. Overall, it was nice smoky Porter that I wouldn't mind having again.

Pours a clear and crisp rich walnut brown with good head retention. The aroma is light malt with some subtle dry fruit and just a note of smoke, exactly how I like it. The front taste is fruit followed by a sweet maltiness in the middle and finishes with smoke, clean and dry and a small hop bite. Mouthfeel is dry, crisp and full carbonation. I could certainly session this beer.

On tap in Malvern served in a McKenzie chalice.
A: A dark almost black color with a one finger light brown head. Not a real think head as it seemed to have small little bubbles more than a foam.
S: Deep smell, classic porter smell with some nuts, coffee and the hint of smoke.
T: Very malty with little hops. A sweet flavor with hints of caramel, coffee, nuts and of course the smoke flavor on the finish. Very nice little porter flavor.
M: Medium body with light carbonation and not a lot of alcohol presence. No real bitterness with a nice smooth malt feeling.
D: Good, I could have had more than one and this was a very easy drinking porter. Not a bad beer, very enjoyable.
Overall a solid porter wtih a hint of smokiness. I'll disagree with the other reviewer that said it is more in the brown ale style. To me, this was a classic porter with the smoke added at the finish.
I am really glad I tried it and I actually am considering getting a growler fill of it. I enjoyed the beer and you should too. Cheers.

Enjoyed on-tap at the brewpub.
Served in a goblet. Was presented as a deep brown colored beer with moderate tannish head.
Smell is notable for roasted malt with a distinct smoky aspect.
Taste is also strong on the roasted malt. Some nice coffee notes are also present. An enjoyable dryness surfaces at the finish.
This was a nice beer. Nothing spectactular, but still very tasty.
