This beer was served on tap at The Tavern of the Pine Barn Inn in Danville, Pennsylvania. It arrived in a generic pint glass, showing a solid golden amber coloring. A one finger head of tan, soapy bubbles crowned the liquid, leaving patterned lacing around the glass after a moderate retention. No haze or sediment was noted, and carbonation appeared to be medium. The aroma gave simple pale malts, mildly wet wheatiness, tinny metallics, dusty corny adjunct, citric and soapy hoppiness, sweet honey and caramel sugariness, bitter oregano bite, green grassy resins, strawberry and grapefruit fruity freshness, lemon cleaner wipes, white rice, and rubber cement. Flavors included chalky pale malts, twiggy bark, caramel malts, grassy, herbal, and sweet nectary hop varietals, molded straw in musty basements, crisp red apples fruitiness, celery salt, biting phenolic plastics, lemon cleaner chemicals, and white flour adjuncts. Through the aftertaste came distinct perfumed floral hoppiness and hot ethanol. The body was decidedly light, and the carbonation was medium, crisp, and refreshing. Slurp, smack, cream, and froth were all muted, with the mouth left mildly dried, but little else. The abv was appropriate, and the beer drank back cleanly and easily enough.

Overall, although this wasn’t the most flavorful and complexly aromatic pale ale we’ve had in recent years, its crisp and refreshing nature made for an enjoyable experience. One big thing about it is that we weren’t quite expecting such a hop-forward beer, and we were surprised to find that that was the resounding ingredient to permeate each aspect of the beer. It had a nice hoppy core to it, at the very least. Part of what made the beer so refreshing was the fact that we drank it after an exhausting winter’s drive. We arrived in this little town in central Pennsylvania, in a quaint, quiet tavern in the middle of winter, and were able to sip in relative solitude after the day’s more strenuous parts. As with the other brews enjoyed this evening, it hit the spot quite well, and helped us relax into restful slumber.

Good hoppy American pale ale. Had a deep copper color with a clean finish. Smell was average....very light. I liked it. Interestingly, I have had it out of the can and on draft.....I thought the can was better. If your at the brew pub and like pale ale you should give it a shot...and if it is available retail in your area it is not a bad way to spend a buck.
