A: pours jet black in color with some garnet hues on the edge. A creamy tan head sits on top and settles nicely.
S: Spicy and herbal hops up front with a burst of grassy hops. Nice light burnt aroma and fresh brown bread aromas make up some hearty malt for this beer.
T: Earthy and spicy hops with notes of peppercorn and fresh grass are up front. Clean malt profile with some burnt and molasses notes and a touch of coffee. Light fruitiness too.
M: light carbonation in a medium body.
O: Well rounded ale and easy going down. Definitely worth a try!

I had this brew on tap at Old Forge. Going into it, I had no idea what it was. After the fact I learned this was a "cascadian dark ale" brewed with 11 ingrediants for 11/11/11.
It pours black with a dark tan head. The cap holds with decent retention. As it fades, it leaves spotty lace stcking to the glass. When held to the light, some lighter brown is seen through the edges.
The aromatics are dark and fruity that seemingly come from a combination of alcohol esters and faint hops. A roasty grain inclusion provides a notion of coffee, slightly musty mixed with a bit of earth.
The taste is bitter with an oily feel of citrus hops. Contrasting the hop aspect is an earthy and musty dark grain character. Just like the nose led on, there is some dark fruity alcohol elements present that strike harder than what you would expect for the 6.6%
This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. It is quite a warming brew with a dry finish that you dont often see in this style. Regardless, I thought it was pretty decent. The musty grain i could deal without but as far as the style goes, I enjoyed this moreso than others take on it.
