This has a really lactic tone to it that is a bit odd, but being the freak that I am, I can dig it. It will be off putting to some, or many, as it is slightly so even to me. Citrus is certainly there. Yeasty and bready for sure. This is their first saison, and it's okay. Could do with some rounding of the rough edges and a little less clogged flavor. Nice enough though I guess.

A refreshing farmhouse style summer ale, with a touch of honey and spices, aged on French oak chips. 5.7% alc by vol.
Had on firkin at Old Forge tap takeover.
Two firsts for me here, a saison on cask and a saison aged on oak chips. I love cask beer but this was not a successful firkin. There was almost zero carbonation (which hurts saison), no head to speak of and lacked nuance and awesome mouthfeel real ale can have.
The oak age was a bit more successful. The oak taste was very muted but actually worked well with the familiar farmhouse flavors of the beer. Much better than this new obsession with oak and barrel aged IPAs which i don't really get.
The beer itself was mild and not overly spiced. Slightly sweet rather than dry but not cloying in the least as some american Belgians can be. Could be very drinkable on a summer day.
Overall the beer was solid but I believe a better medium would have helped significantly.
