Picked up a couple of these on a recent trip to Berlin. Clear yellow pour with a quickly fading fluffy white head and decent lacing. Unusual aroma that was somewhat offputting with hints of sweet candy and alcohol. Nothing special about the taste of this beer. German pilsners tend to be either really sweet or really bitter. This one definitely leans to the sweet side. The sweetness makes it a one and done for me.

Beer bottle (50 cl.), tasted in 2011.

Appearance : light golden color, with white foamy head.
Smell : malt and grain aromas.
Taste and mouthfeel : spiced, hoppy and malty flavour, leading to a dry bitter finish.
Drinkability : an average beer in the style German pilsener.

Had a bottle of this at a friend's house in Berlin. Freshness date says July of 2011.

A: Pours a clear golden color with a 1 1/2 finger head which dissapears quickly.

S: Very faint hops and some bready yeast notes.

T: Bitterness upfront which lingers then fades to a bready taste. Very fresh.

M: Medium to light in body, light carbonation. Very good.

D: Drinkability is very high. Taste, mouthfeel, and low alcohol (5% abv) make this one of my favorites. It is hard to beat any time of year.

A: Pours light golden with no bubbles in the liquid. Creamy white large head that sinks slowly leaving nice lacings.

S: Pure malt, citric notes and some bitter hops and some green apples. White bread.

T: Malt and bitter hops. Citric notes and green apples. A dry bitterness.

M: Medium creamy body with a balanced carbonation. Aftertaste is medium long with some sweetness and some bitterness.

D: Nice balanced German Pilsener. Nothing extraordinary, though.

Had on-tap at a small restaurant in Weisbaden.

Beer was served in the proper glass with a light golden color and a full white head. The aroma was that of fresh beer. The tase was crisp and refreshing. the finish was dry with light carbonation that went down smooth and easy. A nice pilsner that went well with my meal.

As a Berliner-the reviews do not bother me-since this is less than average beer.

What does bother me is that the name of the beer given here is WRONG.

There are basically three major beers in Berlin. Berliner Kindl, Schultheiss and Berliner Pilsner. The beer reviewed here is called Schultheiss-as it states on the can-NOT Berliner Pilsner.

The real Berliner Pilsner is made by a brewery founded in 1902 and was in the East Berlin after WWII.

Although all three beers are owned by the same conglomerate-Brau & Brunnen-they are different beers.

If this seems nit-picky-it is not because any city (and her citizens) worth its salt should be proud of their beer (even if they are not the best) and calling Schultheiss Berliner Pilsner is something I can't let pass.

Please change.

I did not enjoy this beer much at all--the bitterness was overwhelming and very metallic, and drowned out any other flavors. The nutty malts and slightly floral hops were around the edges, and the weird mineral taste was in the center. Similarly, the almost gritty mouthfeel made me wonder, is this the famous "hard water" of Berlin I've heard so much about?

It's not actually as terrible as I make it sound, it's drinkable maybe, but I would not want to drink it until well into the night.

On tap into a thick glass mug at Franken, Orianenstraße, in Berlin. Great bar.

Pale straw with full inch of dense foam. Lots of lacing.

Nice bitterness, but blended. No particular hop sticks out. A touch of spice.

Clean, bitter taste. Noble hops in balance with the touch of malt present. Very clean.

Well carbonated and light bodied.

Slightly above average brew - but don't avoid it.

Great to have this pilsner outdoors at our first restaurant in berlin. The signes for it are everywhere and it was typical of the great style of beer. Not as bitter as I like and a little warm but refreshing nonetheless. Would love to try it from a bottle or can.

A good pilsner. I tried it for the first time tonight in Berlin (I had to, right?). It was cold, it was Berlin, it was good. Nothing to write home about, but definitely worth getting more than once.

Color was dark yellow. A strong head and lacing. Very clean, dry finish.
