Had a bottle of this at a friend's house in Berlin. Freshness date says July of 2011.
A: Pours a clear golden color with a 1 1/2 finger head which dissapears quickly.
S: Very faint hops and some bready yeast notes.
T: Bitterness upfront which lingers then fades to a bready taste. Very fresh.
M: Medium to light in body, light carbonation. Very good.
D: Drinkability is very high. Taste, mouthfeel, and low alcohol (5% abv) make this one of my favorites. It is hard to beat any time of year.

Sampled in Berlin. Served in a branded 0.5l glass. Clear golden beer with a creamy, white, foam head that settles with stick to an ample lace.
Strong nutty character, grainy, crisp, slightly metallic with a low level of sweetness and a smooth and creamy feel on the palate. Thin hop flavour and a light snappy bitterness. Dry finish.
Quite popular in Berlin ... I guess you could liken it to one of the US macro beers, both in availability and its advertising within the city. I thought it was kind of "blah" and not at all exciting. Lacked any defining flavours.

I lived in Berlin in the late 80's and drank this beer draught and out of bottles during my three years, almost daily. When my wife went on a shopping trip, back to Berlin with her friends, she brought this bottle back with her. It has either changed, or my memory is playing tricks with me.
It looked the same, a light golden, bright pilsner/lager. Where has the aroma gone? I almost found a hint of hops, if I am being kind. Where has the taste gone? Dryness, but no flavour to get excited about. The dryness stayed in the mouth for a while, but no real feel to it. I will have it again, if I get the chance, but out of duty/memory more than because of this bottle.

Had a few of these in and around Berlin. Very heavy presence in most of the pubs/restaurants. Although served well, it wasnt particularly impressive by German standards, despite being better than your average macro.
The difference between this an a really good pilsener was the metallic presence and the chemical hints. The quality of serving also varied from pub to pub.

Picked up a couple of these on a recent trip to Berlin. Clear yellow pour with a quickly fading fluffy white head and decent lacing. Unusual aroma that was somewhat offputting with hints of sweet candy and alcohol. Nothing special about the taste of this beer. German pilsners tend to be either really sweet or really bitter. This one definitely leans to the sweet side. The sweetness makes it a one and done for me.

Great to have this pilsner outdoors at our first restaurant in berlin. The signes for it are everywhere and it was typical of the great style of beer. Not as bitter as I like and a little warm but refreshing nonetheless. Would love to try it from a bottle or can.

I think this is the first beer I've ever reviewed that is such so overwhelmingly average in every respect. It has a very bitter almost acrid hop sting to it, although much of the malt characteristic is able to cover that up with a sort of fluffy, I just licked a wooden floor kind of taste. Not overall unpleasant, but just... dirty and rough.

This beer pours a typical pilsener: golden base, medium white head, rentention holds about 20 minutes and a few specs of lacing. The smell is a nice but limited one-dimension of hops.
Same as the smell, nothing amazing but a solid taste. Not overly pleasant but calm to the mouth, somewhat smooth going down too. It's a solid drinkable pils at 5%, but I wouldn't come to this one in terms of having another.
Final Thought: It's pretty good down the board with American brews, which is maybe good for Berlin, but not so for Germany's brew history.

As a Berliner-the reviews do not bother me-since this is less than average beer.
What does bother me is that the name of the beer given here is WRONG.
There are basically three major beers in Berlin. Berliner Kindl, Schultheiss and Berliner Pilsner. The beer reviewed here is called Schultheiss-as it states on the can-NOT Berliner Pilsner.
The real Berliner Pilsner is made by a brewery founded in 1902 and was in the East Berlin after WWII.
Although all three beers are owned by the same conglomerate-Brau & Brunnen-they are different beers.
If this seems nit-picky-it is not because any city (and her citizens) worth its salt should be proud of their beer (even if they are not the best) and calling Schultheiss Berliner Pilsner is something I can't let pass.

Had on-tap at a small restaurant in Weisbaden.
Beer was served in the proper glass with a light golden color and a full white head. The aroma was that of fresh beer. The tase was crisp and refreshing. the finish was dry with light carbonation that went down smooth and easy. A nice pilsner that went well with my meal.

A friend of mine flew up to Berlin recently and, taking up on my usual demand (bring me a local beer, please), she brought me the Berliner Pilsner, which was a bit of a surprise.
At the pour, the regular toned golden translucid medium white head really doesnt look anything out of the ordinary.
But one sniff is worth a thousand looks. Full of hops in the nose and of wheat as well, the first one being the dominant feature of the taste as well, provided this beer didn't seem like an overhopped (in a good way) brew. The wheat is hidden behind and comes through nicely at times. medium to full body, actually, as well very unexpected.
A pleasant drink.

I hate giving beers bad ratings like this, but this beer is pretty terrible. It lost all of its head almost immediately, and there is almost no carbonation. It's clear gold in colour, bordering on looking like apple juice. I couldn't smell much of anything - no aromatic hops in there. Purely bittering hops. The taste is kind of one-dimensional. I taste very light hops and that's it. As just as it looked, there isn't enough carbonation. However, it is refreshing.

Poured a fluffy white head that left no lace as it faded. Pale straw colored beers holds a few streams of surprisingly large bubbles. Delicate aroma is a mix of herbal hops and an nondescript sweetness. Mouthfeel is a bit fuller then I was expecting from such a delicate smelling beer, but it remains crisp and quenching. The bit of sweetness from the Pils malt is overrun by grassy/herbal hop flavors and solid bite that kicks in midway through and carries into the finish. A nice Pils that was better then I was expecting. No complaints here.

500ml serving in Berliner Pilsner Branded tankard in hotel "Irish Pub", vom fass.
A: light straw body with a fluffy 3 finger head from an aggressive pour. Head retention is good, with lacing sustained.
S: lots of lovely fresh bread malts, biscuit and a hoppy grassiness.
T: a lovely crisp clean flavour. a nice dry hoppy finish combined with the malty biscuit in the start, well balanced.
M: Crisp, medium carbonation, rerreshing
D: An inoffensive crisp pilsner experience, not the best i have had but a good example of the style.
