While visiting Garrison Brewing while our cruise ship stopped in Halifax, I just happen to spot Garrison Brewing as we walked of the pier to the boardwalk.

This wheat Ale when poured from the tap was a medium yellow color, with a little white foam and a medium amount of lace on the side of the glass. The smell had a really different aroma than I had before on a wheat ale. The first thing that hits you is the spices. I can't explain, but I could pick up a slightly yeasty flavor, with corriander and a bunch of other flavors that were a blended nicely that I couldn't define them all.

Very tasty, smooth and mild.

Pours a slightly hazy straw yellow, with a good sized snow white head that lasts quite well and leaves a bit of lacing. Carbonation is vigorous and continues to bubble profusely to the surface for quite a while. Smell is light and bready, dry, with some light fruitiness. Banana and orange, with pepper and spices apparent as well. Just a bit less forward than it could be, otherwise it ticks all the right boxes. Taste is more forward, and very pleasant.Cloves and banana, lots of light citrus and yeastiness with a sharp, peppery edge to the finish. Touch of caramel is a bit out of place, but not unpleasant. Mouthfeel is crisp, well carbonated, and very refreshing, and drinkability is quite good. I wasn't really expecting greatness, but it's a very enjoyably ale, would be good for summer drinking.

Bomber acquired from MMansfield.

Pours a cloudy amber, thin white head forms, no lacing, leaves a thin ring around the glass. Smell is sweet, apricots, fruit, honey, wheat, some floral/citrus, bland. Taste is cereal/oats, wheat, honey, apricots, fruits, licorice, bread, weak and watery finish. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation. Pretty refreshing but lacking in solid flavour. Thanks Matt!

Bomber from the brewery with bottled-on date listed on label as September '08.

Pours a hazy orange-amber with a finger of white head that slowly recedes to a thin layer on the beer. No lacing left on the glass.

Smell is mainly wheat in a baked-bread way, hints of citrus and caramel. Overall there's not much to the smell, it's quite light.

Taste is surprisingly fruity with a backbone of wheat. Almost like a fruit cocktail; plenty of citrus flavours, maybe some peach, apricot, some pear? Wheat is sometimes present as bread or biscuity, provides a slightly gritty feel and taste. The beer is light in the mouth, with just enough heft to keep it from feeling watery. Carbonation is quite lively, and offsets the sweetness nicely. Mildly drying on the finish.

This is a quaffer for sure; refreshing taste and low alcohol make this a sessionable brew.

This beer would be a little better if the taste was somewhat more solid. There's plenty to like in this beer, and I heartily recommend it, but it is mild enough that it doesn't particularly stand out. Available in bombers during the fall. It will be interesting to see if they tweak this in future years.

22oz bottle. unfiltered.

pours hazy amber with a small very dense white head. the head drops fast and leaves no lace.

aroma is nice. light caramel. bit of floral character. grain and white bread. light alcohol. just a hint of dms, but not to offensive levels.

taste is ok. hint of caramel. bit of alcohol. grain . white bread. bit floral.

mouthfeel is nice. medium body. medium-low carbonation level.

drinkability is good. not a lot going on, but it's a solid, balanced and interesting beer.

650ml bottle poured into a weiss glass. Sent to me by mmansfield, thanks Matt!

Pours a light straw colour, light haze, medium carbonation. Not much head off a fairly vigorous pour, bit of wet lace and even a bit of head retention. Aroma is floral, peppery, earthy and spicy with a bit of the typical wheat banana aromas, but subdued. A little apple juice fruitiness as well.

Taste is a bit peppery and earthy with a light apple sweetness. There's not much more to it than that really, except for a bit of a muddy floral note that comes off soapy to me. Mouthfeel is thin, very light with a bit too much carbonation for my liking. Finish isn't too dry, just slides right down. I know what this beer is, and it does it's job well, it's a decent summer refresher. For me though, I'd rather have a real hefe or a well crafted pilsner, this is just a little too thin in the body and flavour department.
