Garrison "PiLs" draws inspiration from several classic styles by blending Czech Saaz hops, German lager yeast and Bluenose spirit to create this crisp, refreshing brew. "Na zdravi!"

A - perfectly clear golden, tall head dissipated slowly leaving some random lacing
S - light citrus and herbs, peppery, toasted grain and light butter
T - hops much like the nose with citrus, pepper, and light grass, buttered multigrain toast, with a slight mineral like finish
M - light, crisp, clean, bitter, and refreshing, classic pils
O - a very respectable true to form Czech Pilsner, I would like to see this as a 6 pack offering from Garrison if it is not

Garrison Pils first appears golden until a bright afternoon sun reveals it to in fact be school bus yellow. Closer inspection also suggests that its density derives from the naturally foggy complexion and, seeing how strongly it supports its head, the use of ample malt. Despite the tenacity, however, the suds leave no markings.

The aroma may be more malty than anything but does have a moderate and pleasant pungency, with hints of grass clippings and flower petals. Perhaps a little lemon zest too. While it isn't boastful it definitely distinguishes itself as a true pilsner (as opposed to just another golden lager). Definitely a beer you want to enjoy from a glass.

With Czech hops and German yeast, this pilsner really covers all the bases. Mind you, neither makes too much of a mark. The hops add textural variety more so than actual flavor; an earthy and lightly spicy bitterness lingers. Good carbonation and high sulfate content in the water also contribute to the crisp, drying effect on the finish.

Traces of graham-cracker and oven-fresh wheat are evidence of really good quality malts and the supervision of an experienced brewer. No adjuncts spoil this clean and well structured beer and, equally as important, neither do any errors in brewing such as diacetyl. People underestimate how difficult it is to make a high-quality lager.

Garrison Pils has just the right amount of character to negotiate that tricky line between having solid, respectable flavor but not too much of it so as to make the beer agreeable only in small serving sizes. This is a good quality beer for everyday drinking. Mind you, the $4.25 I paid for this bottle kind of hinders the prospects of that possibility.

Appearance: It has a nice clear yellow/golden color to it. It has a nice white head that dies down slowly and leaves some lacing.

Smell: The aromas definitly give out hints of bready malts, grains, grassy hops, and a citrus/lemon zest.

Taste: Like the aromas, it has a bready and grainy malt presence, grassy and floral hops and spicy noble hops. Decent bitterness.

Mouthfeel: It has a low/medium carbonation with a nice overall balance and feel.

Drinkability: It's a very smooth drinkable beer accompanied with good flavors and aromas.

This stuff looks perfect. A huge, pillowy head that lasts forever and ever sits atop a deep gold brew. Tight streams of carbonation bubbles race to the top. Sea air and grass mixes with salteen crackers in the nose. The taste is very generously hopped with the aforementioned sea air and grass flavors and an awesome eucalyptus juicyness. Bready malts provide a sufficient balance. The mouthfeel is full bodied for the style with very active carbonation. The finish is long with great bitterness.

This is a stand out Pils in my opinion, very great depth of hop flavors and fantastic balance. I'll seek this out again.

Bottle: Poured a clear golden color pilsner with a large pure white foamy head with good retention and some good lacing. Aroma of light dry floral notes with some clean cereal notes. Taste is a good mix between some floral notes with light dry hops and some good cereal notes with light grainy aftertaste. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Well done though you can feel how fragile those pilsner can be since it is already showing some tired signs after being moved across the country.

From notes:

Appearance: poors a huge head that doesn't want to quit, suds continuously flowing like a storm; crystal clear and golden orange

Aroma: the usual light, slightly bready scent; some citrus hops

Taste & Mouthfeel: super crisp and clean; more bitter than expected, covering the mouth and lingering with a pleasant dryness; perfect medium carbonation; hint of grass and spice, caramel

Overall: a supremely refreshing beer that is gratifying to the last drop; as great to look at as it is to drink

A - Pours a crystal clear golden colour, finger of big bubble head with decent retention and some sporadic lacing.

S - Light grassy hop notes, hints of citrus and lemon rind, buttered bread and a bit of wheat.

T - The grassy hops dominate, but the fruity citrus hop notes come through nicely on the finish alongside a healthy dose of bready malt. Great balance.

M - Lighter bodied ale that can come across a tad prickly, and finishes with a touch of dryness.

O - A tasty rendition of the style. I love the subtle citrus hop presence, as it adds a unique twist on a classic style. Very drinkable and well worth grabbing. A truly appetizing summer ale.

Found this in the LCBO a few weeks ago, opened it today. This poured a bright yellow with some white foamy head that reduced to a nice thin layer very typical of the style. Smell is sweet and grassy with a touch of hops. Taste is very bold, all the flavors that are evident in a pilsener are there but amplified. Very flavorful, but lacking that refreshing aspect that most of this style exhibit.

Overall, a nice flavorful brew, I would certainly get this again.

Bottle from the LCBO brewery feature. Tasting on February 19, 2012.

Golden and clear appearance. Some retention on a finger of head.

Aroma is very gentle, not too much up front on this one.

Taste is mild, virtually no bitterness at all, not detecting any saaz hops. Almost reminds me of lemon tea.

Mouthfeel is very smooth and not heavily carbonated.

Extremely drinkable, given it's smooth mild body and virtually no bitterness. Glad to have tried this brew, but won't rush out to by more...

A: Pours a bright, clear golden yellow with a sizeable, rocky head of bubbly foam. Good retention, settling to a foamy ring and leaving substantial lacing.

S: Crisp, slightly sweet pilsner malt with toasted grain undertones and a hint of yeasty breadiness mingles with floral, slightly peppery noble hops.

T: Rich, moderately attenuated pilsner malt with toasted grained and biscuit undertones. Floral, earthy, and somewhat spicy noble hops plus a yeasty note in the finish.

M: Light-bodied with typical carbonation, crisp and light on the tongue but a little gassy. Excellent balance, though, and quite sessionable altogether.

D: A solid, tasty pilsner worth trying, but it could do with slightly milder carbonation.

Beautiful bottle, typical for Garrison, poured a three finger fluffy white head with good retention leaving patchy lacing, upon a golden yellow body.

Smell is bursting with grassy hops, grain malt, lemon, and light fruit.

Taste follows the nose with lemon and tea notes and something I can not quite put me finger on, but very tasty.

Medium bodied, this is very crisp and refreshing with a nice amount of bitterness that lingers long into the finish.

This is a top notch pilsener and another example of the supreme quality of Garrison brews.

Deep gold in colour with brilliant clarity, topped by a large meringue-like head. Good retention and spotty lacing. Aroma shows shows fresh bread, floral, and light grassy notes. Malty, mildly sweet, up front with a note of white bread. Floral and lemon zest flavours are also present, as well as a mild bitterness that lingers in the long finish. Mouthfeel is rich yet light, with good carbonation. A simple and well-crafted pils.
