The beer is black in color (duh!)... Some red notes on the edges. The head is beige in color, dense and very sticky. Nice looking beer.

The aroma is pretty intense in hops, some citrus, grapefruits and pines. Some roasted malts but very subtle. The hops are dominating here. The taste is similar but with some chocolate notes too. Medium body. Quite effervescent in the mouth. It would gain in being less carbonated if you ask me. A decent beer.

Served from a 500ml bottle to an English tulip

A: Fairly black with some ruby red coming through in the light. Slightly beige head about 1.5 finger thick. Beautiful lacing was left behind as the beer was consumed and head retention was fantastic. Some white sediment is visible as the bottom of the beer was poured in.

S: Hops come through immediately. A tad floral but the highlight is pine.

T: Once again hops are the beast of this beer. Piney west coast type hop flavors were most dominant. A slight bit of floral hops was also present and added another layer of depth to the overall character of the beer. Roasted malt is available and follows the hops up nicely. The fruitiness advertised on the label seemed to be absent but still nice tasting and unique.

M: A tad thinner then what I was expecting for such a dark beer as i was awaiting stout level thickness. This is probably not appropriate for the genre but I can't be sure as this was my intro to the style. Carbonation was pleasing.

O: A well done beer IMO even if it was my first ABA and I have nothing to compare it to. I liked it and am considering giving the brewpub a visit as its extremely close to my house.

Smells of pine and hoppy goodness.

Pours to a huge head that looks like beige marshmallow. The head started to deflate in some places, leaving some mounds

It is almost pitch black with reddish shades around the edges.

The hoppiness is not as forward as I would have expected... It gives way quick to a little malty roasted taste. The break is clean, after a few seconds it's all gone...

It feels like it should be bolder, with more weight to it... It's a bit too "smooth".
but then I just want another sip ;o)

Bottle: Poured a clear deep black color ale with a medium size foamy head with good retention and some light lacing. Aroma of roasted malt and resin hops is not as powerful as I was expecting. Taste is also a good mix between some medium roasted malt with light bitterness and some medium resin hoppy notes. Body is a bit light for style with not enough of a creamy body with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Not bad but I was expecting a bigger hops punch with a fuller body.
