Served by a pint served on cask at the local Wetherspoon’s pub. Dark russet brown to black-ish colour, deeply cocoa-accentuated on the nose with vanilla-ish hints & fried berry fruits. Sweet vanilla flavours and dark malts on the palate with faint roasty hints & a decent fruit acidity, finishing lightly gristy with cocoa-undertones lingering. Moderate on hop bitterness & dry-ish roasty mouthfeel. Not a particularly well made stout, although the alc. is generally well hidden behind the medium body which doesn't feel thin nor rich. A bit too sweet and vanilla-ish at the expense of a good balance, final verdict. (618 characters)

Cask conditioned. Brewed exclusively for JD Wetherspoon at Caledonian Brewery, Edinburgh, by Tyler King of The Bruery, Placentia, California, USA.

Hand-pulled pint in The George Inn, Bewdley on 22 Feb 2014.

This is a vanilla flavoured beauty: dark brown/black in colour with a good beige crown of deep foam.

The nose was a chocolate vanilla special, with a coffee undertone.

Taste wise the vanilla pushed itself forward with the malty molasses falling away to second fiddle: sweet but not overly so, this is a good brew indeed.

Smooth, rich and deep, the alcohol being well hidden throughout. (597 characters)
