Easy drinking with hints of sweet corn, bread and caramel, finishing with a blast of citrus hop character and just enough crisp to balance the sweet. It's a toast to rolling surf, Baja hoodies, beach BBQs and the elusive green flash.

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

Look: Hazy burnt orange, slightly pale yellow. White head calms to a film, nice rings of lacing.

Aroma: Mostly a malt experience with orange and lemon peels.

Taste: A balance of sweet malts transitioning to a tangy, bitter hop finish. Good lemon peel presence, tastes very citrusy.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied.

Overall: Definitely tastes like a summer beer, with excellent citrus notes.

12oz bottle in a nonic pint glass.

A- Yellow-gold color, splash of orange sun, 1/2F white head, some rings of lacing. Lively carb, unfiltered look.

S- Light toasted malt, dry white bread. Nothing sweet about it. Some floral hops.

T- Light, dry malts. Floral and fruit hops.

M- easy drinking, medium body, sturdy. Lasting hops, not bitter.

O- Surfer Ale from NE? OK, why not!

A - Poured out a clear, golden/orange color with a small white head of bubbly foam. It left thin sheets of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled of citrus and some pine. Light caramel nose.

T - It tasted of citrus - mostly orange. Some nice toasty malt with a touch of bitterness.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light to medium bodied ale with a dry finish.

O - This is a nice APA. Empyrean does some really nice beers.

A- Short white head on top of a micro-sediment filled straw golden body. A collar and a little head retention remains throughout, also speckles of lacing along the pint glass wall.

S- Corn, breadiness. Slight hop aroma.

T- Follows the nose to a "T". Very bready. Pretty bland really.

M- Medium mouthfeel, somewhat creamy actually. Soft but adequate carbonation.

D/O- An easy drinker that the macro fans would enjoy. I wouldn't necessarily classify this as an American Pale Ale but I'm not sure where else it belongs...cream/adjunct ale? If you're downing craft beers on a 100 degree day, this one is worth a try...otherwise, pass.

Picked this up on a clearance for $3.50 a six pack. The owner said he was just making room for the next offering and the beer was handled properly (I asked why it was cheap.) Still paid too much.

The smell is off. Baby food. Smashed peas. Canned vegetables. Vegetable broth. In other words, not appropriate beer smells.

The taste is not much better. Awful corn / baby food flavor. They inform / warn you of this on the label. As if to say, "We love DMS!" It is truly a confused, heinous combination of flavors.

I get nothing citrus, summer, or the least bit enjoyable from this beer. It was a drain pour. There's nothing pale ale about this. It tends more towards a confused cream ale than anything else.

Alcohol: 5.0% abv

pours out a cloudy dark gold colour with a huge frothy eggshell white head. lots of lace to be had. citric lemon aroma...spice and toasted malt with hints of some caramel malt. taste is hodgepodge of malty characteristics...before i looked up the info i swear i could taste creamed corn and my taste buds weren't wrong. i get very little of any hopping, just a bit of earthy spice to meekly balance out the malt forward character. soft and supple body with a very creamy, slightly rich mouthfeel making for an easy drinking experience and extremely approachable in terms of appealing to the masses.

overall this was a nice beer. not sure of the style and any comparisons to the california common style that was entered before is curious at best. this is obviously a different beer (ale vs. lager yeast) than the summer fest common entered prior, although the pic of the bottle is the same. if i'm wrong i hope this review finds its way to the proper place. i entered this as a steam beer because i have no idea what this style is supposed to be.

Super Nova pours a darker cooper color with a large lacing head. There is a crisp and earthy, with grassy aroma. The taste is very crisp, earthy undertones, with hints of a grassy like flavor, and a light hoppy taste. Good body,, good flavors, easy to drink too. Overall its a nice enjoyable beer, but a bit boring.

Sampled a little earlier this evening on 5/12/14. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a pint glass.

Pours a burnt orange in color with a very thin off white head. The lacing was of thin sheets that hugged the sides of the glass. The aroma is of some citrus and hops with a hint of caramel and pine. More going on with the taste with the above mentioned with the orange zest coming through. A slight bitter finish. Perfect carbonation for the type. Overall, wasn't bad but OK.
