From notes: had on tap at Crescent Moon Ale House 12/29.

Served in a pint glass. Body is light amber in color and the head dissipates rather quickly to a small ring.

Smell is remarkable: the mango comes through consistently without making too much commotion. The sweet fruity aroma are complimented very well by citrusy hops.

Taste is fruity and bitter. Sweet malts provide a sturdy and necessary backbone, creating a great balance.

Mouthfeel is of a smooth, medium body and carries the complex taste across the palate in appropriate form.

This was a great beer. The fruit was just strong enough to leave a pleasant impression. If you are in the region and this beer is available, you've got to give it a shot.

A classic IPA with a great mango scent. Not overwhelming with the mango. A fresh take on an IPA for Empyrean.

This must be a very new brew as I had it on tap at Red's Ale House near Iowa City last night, but it is not in the database. It was a good looking brew, clear, golden/amber, with a decent fluffy white head that stayed for a bit and also left some lacing as it fell.

But the aroma was amazing! I suppose if skunk (or more accurately skunk smelling weed) isn't something you like, perhaps you'd not like it so much, at least at first. Because strong skunky weed emanates from this one up front, though it fades into a blend of a rich fruity blend of citrus and tropical fruity aromas (including some mango, but maybe not enough to name the beer for) that, in my experience, may perhaps be unmatched. It was extraordinarily aromatic, with a plethora of influences that blended together in a wonderfully fruity medley. They must have dumped a huge load of dry hops in this stuff.

The taste followed the nose, though it wasn't quite as profoundly fruity and bold as the nose. Early was primarily tropical and citrus fruit, peach, grapefruit and even mango coming to mind. Bitterness was modest and balancing. As it warmed the malty sweetness and the overall balance of the brew became more apparent. This beer, at least last night, has tremendous hop flavor with modest bitterness, nice malty character underneath, and good overall balance.

Carbonation was good, with medium full body, and was smooth and easy drinking.

Wow! Supreme smelling, great tasting, hoppy brew from the Cornhusker state.

cant help but be impressed with this, even though i know it probably had to be done with some mango syrup or something rather than fresh fruit, and that it probably has some flaws, but it just tastes so good! orange hued average looking brew, brighter than most maybe, and with a lasting white head thats as creamy as this beer feels. the nose is really mango forward, easily identifiable fruit in high dose. hops are secondary in the smell, which as me concerned, but i like that its a double ipa, i think it needs the extra hops and alcohol for the mango to really work, that part is genius. not as sweet as expected either, but the fruit is prominent all the way though, rather authentic, like a good mango popsicle. hops are light and fruity too, which is a good combination. the grains sort of sit back and let the hops and mangos go for it, which is smart. some leftover sugar in the finish, but the hops do come up with some bitter balance too, and the whole thing just works. no clue if this is packaged or not, but i bet it would crush it if it was. guilty pleasure beer right here!
