Serving glass: Poured from bottle into glass.

Appearance: Hazy dark gold with foamy white head.

Smell: Citrus and floral notes.

Taste: Definitely more floral than citrusy in the taste department. Some earthy and toasted notes. Finish is pretty bitter and the hop taste is not quite enough to make the bitterness worthwhile.

Feel: Moderate carbonation, medium body, nice dry finish. No problem with the mouthfeel.

Overall: American/English IPA hybrid that could use some more actual hop flavor. Still decent overall.

Spicy, herbal hops, citrus and light grains on the nose. Pours hazy gold with a 1” fluffy white head that produces intricate lace. Palate of light malts that become richer and more prominent as the beer warms. Underneath, an earthy woodiness, biscuit and nuts, with very light fruit in the background. The bitterness is firm but not harsh. Medium body and carbonation.

A: Dark apricot hue with a thin but steady head; lacing is great

S: Pretty malt heavy and fairly subdued for an IPA--some faint citrus and pine but mostly grassy, herbal grains

T: More balance in the flavors; it's malty and grainy; citrus hop flavor works well with the malts

F: Really creamy; great medium both feel

O: A decent IPA that luckily brings more flavor than the aroma does

BBD of Septmeber. Picked this up at Gomer's in Lee's Summit...

Pours a semi-hazed apricot with 3+ fingers of cream colored head. Clears a bit as this warms, great head retention & lacing

S: Bready & fruitty, a little grassy

T: Bready, grassy, some lemony notes, plus pear notes. Some woody hops as this warms,
some biscuitty malt notes. Finishes grassy, fruitty & a bit of lemon

MF: Medium bodied, slight carbonation, decent balance

An easy drinking AIPA, but nothing special

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip glass. Best by September, this year presumably.

A - Pours a hazy orange with a two finger width off white head. Nice lacing.

S - Floral hops are what seems to dominate, with caramel malt lying underneath. Nothing overwhelming, but the balance seems about right.

T - The floral hop bitterness is what hits the palatte up front. There's a hint of citrus through the middle, but not quite as much as I would have expected. The finish shows a touch more of the caramel flavors, but maintains a solid hop bitterness.

M - A bit on the fuller bodied side for this style, but it works. Carbonation is just about right; nothing crazy, but appropriate for the style.

O - Overall, a great offering from Empyrean. I'm glad they've added a year round IPA. At 6%, you can knock back a few of these guys as well. Great for a hot Nebraska day.

Pours a slightly hazy pale amber color with an attractive head that had good retention. The head eventually settles to a thick cap. Moderate amount of sticky lacing is left down the glass.

Very timid aroma. Slight citrus hop smell. A little woodsy with a hint of mint.

Flavor is better but still a little weak in the hop flavor department. I do get some citrus and herbal hints. However the bitterness is all there. Malt is relatively dry for an IPA and adds some cracker like flavor. Finishes bitter and dry.

Lighter body but has good carbonation for an IPA. Nice smooth, pleasant texture. Just wish the body had more heft.

A mediocre IPA. With shelves crowded with so many better IPAs, no real reason to revisit this one. Not really easy to drink either because there is little hop flavor payoff for the bitterness.

12oz stubby
A) Pours with a finger thick head. Settles to a thin lacing on top. Hazy copper body. Thin semi-sticky lacing on the drink down.
S) Orange. Grapefruit. Subtle Hints of pine.
T) Earthy hop bite up front. Underlying caramel malts but the hops are the dominate trait. Lingering hop bite in the finish.
M) Lightly carbonated. Medium body. Dry, gritty and tannic finish.
O) A good IPA. I'd drink another.
