2012 bottle.

Smells bready and nutty, like almond butter spread on toast.

Similarly bready, malty, and nutty on the palate, along with a hint of tartness and some prune and dried fig sorts of flavors. Only moderately sweet; excellent balance between sweetness, smooth herbal earthy bitterness, slight acidity, and nuttiness. Brown or Scotch ale sort of malty flavors, with good depth, lingering in the finish along with some some bitterness, going completely dry, making the beer very drinkable.

Great texture; superfine carbonation, cushy and smooth.

Quite enjoyable; drinking well and probably shouldn't age much longer.

BA classifies this as a winter warmer. I’ve read others who classify it as an old ale or an American strong dark ale. Whatever the case, this is a good beer but not exceptional. A low impact ale. Nothing extreme. My expectations were higher. - 3.5

A - Dark garnet, opaque, with little to no head but nice lacing - 4

S - Some malty breadiness, but little else for me - 3.25

T - Just the slightest hint of alcohol, minimal sweetness. If this is an old ale then the attenuation is way too high. - 3.5

MF - Smooth even a little creamy, medium bodied, ever so slight sourness in the finish - 4

Deep auburn and clear with a pretty good head and so-so lace.

Spicy and caramel notes are forefront. Some bready and dark fruity character. Definitely some good funkiness too.

Medium to full body. Tangy, spicy finish.

Seems slightly on the fence between scotch ale and winter warmer, but was quite tasty.
