On tap at the brewpub.

The beer pours a hazy golden color with a white head. The aroma has a lot of orange citrus and coriander notes, as well as a good deal of wheat. The flavor is similar. I get a ton of juicy orange notes as well as some coriander and white pepper. There is also a strong wheat and biscuit malt note, as well as some noticeable alcohol. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Bottle shared by Grant - thanks!

Pours a cloudy golden-yellow color with a one-finger slightly off-white head. The head recedes into a wispy layer on top leaving solid lacing.

Smells of light wheat with large amounts of floral hops and smaller amounts of citrus hops. Also present are hints of light and indistinct spices.

Tastes similar to how it smells, although there's more influence from the rye. Light malt and soft wheat flavors kick things off and are joined quickly by mild spices and larger amounts of citrus hops. Midway through the sip the spices fade out a bit and slight amounts of bread-like rye flavors work their way into things. The rye flavors fade out a bit but stick around and are joined by light malt and spices to carry through to a moderately bitter ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with solid carbonation.

Drinkability is also good. I finished my glass without a problem and could have another.

Overall the addition of rye to a wit is relatively new to me and while it certainly takes away from some of the best aspects of a good wit (large amounts of soft wheat and smooth citrus with hints of spices) it is still a good beer. This may very well be influenced by my affinity for rye, but it's worth a shot for you to find out for yourself.

Not much rye for a rye beer. Looked good, nice lacing and not much after that, unless you're into good tasting pineapple beers.

#BOTG 134.

Muled from San Antonio for me by my buddy Will (Canadianghetto). Thanks Will! Poured from 22oz bomber into my Brooklyn tulip. Pours a pretty cloudy golden orange color. Not much head, no real retention to speak of. Decent appearance. Smell- juicy orange peel, some candied sugar, clove, banana. Clove and fruit are dominant. Taste- a lot drier than I expected, but a nice creamy mouthfeel. I get big clove, vanilla, dreamcicle (all I could really think of to describe the play between the creaminess and the orange/fruit play. What is not here that I was expecting was a big sweet backbone. But, it actually lends itself to making this easier to drink- I will have no problem taking this down. I also get some cinnamon on the end, back of the throat. Overall, this is an enjoyable beer, I am always happy to enjoy Freetail brews.

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Clear golden yellow. Small white head. Thick collar.

Smell - Very fruity. Pineapple. Estery yeast. Some light grain.

Taste - Quite sweet. Pineapple. Tropical fruits. Yeasty and some grains. Rye comes up in the back.

Mouthfeel - Quite sweet and heavy. Nothing like a wit. Medium low carbonation.

Overall - Meh. Too sweet. Uninspired rye.

A: golden and opaque, big Belgian head with thick rings of lace.

S: Belgian yeast, orange juice, grapefruit, fresh sea foam (almost like fresh lobster or crab).

T: grapefruit, pineapple, Belgian bubble gummy yeast, and I know this sounds weird, but a little of the lobster/crab from the nose. Bitter finish counterbalances fruit juice from the start.

M: medium body, sharp carbonation and a dry foamy finish.

O: though it's technically a "rye beer," it tastes more like a Belgian tripel and certainly stands up to other well known beers from this class.

I came in a breakfast style orange juice looking glass. It also looked a little like orange juice only lighter and more tan.
The bartender poured my beer, but it took a while for the waitress to bring it to me so there may have been a head on it. When I got it there was only a quickly dissolving lace and small foamy patches.

I asked the waitress for something full flavored and strong - this is what she brought me.

I didn't really think much of this one. It did taste more flavor full as it got warmer. There was a laid back straw taste that was pleasant. As it warmed up a bready dough flavor came up. The hops profile was good - it provided a dryness that tied things together. At first the ABV was well masked. Towards the end, however it began to show through, but it wasn't offensive. In the end it had a farmhouse quality to it.

I can appreciate this beer because every time I took a drink a slightly different flavor emerged. If I ever go back to Freetail I'd try this again just once then I would move on. I would certainly recommend checking this one out.

Bottle: Poured a hazy golden color ale with a medium small foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of tart notes with light cereal notes also perceptible. Taste is also dominated by quite a bit of tart notes with some light spicy rye notes that are also perceptible. Body is quite full with medium carbonation. Not bad but a lot more sour then expected which makes it hard to distinguish some of the rye malt.

22 oz bomber (bottle number 77 of 84), review from notes as I drank this one fresh a week after release. Pours a hazed gold color with a serviceable white head. Retention is pretty poor and leaves minimal lace.

Nose has lots of coriander and soft orange citrus notes. Smells like its got some alcohol bite to it and the rye stays mostly in the backgroud.

Extremely soft on the palate, little bit sweet and a touch af tartness makes for some nice interplay on the tongue. Wheat-esque tanginess is offset by a whole lotta coriander. A nice little hop bite on the end along with some pithy orange peel. I really dont get much rye in the flavor, even though I am looking for it. Good beer, one of the best double witbiers I have had...non-coriander fans need not apply.
