look: 4.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Appearance: Pours a clear amber color with a very impressive head that leaves clumps of lace all around the pint glass

Smell: Biscuity malts and earthy, slightly lemony hops

Taste: Biscuity malt, up front, with a somewhat fruity character that develops by mid-palate; the hops arrive in the middle, as well, with an earthy/lemony flavor that lingers through the finish, though there is some residual sweetness that pops up in the aftertaste

Mouthfeel: Medium body with moderate carbonation

Overall: A very nice IPA that tips its hat in an English direction

Thanks, jl28r1, for the opportunity (597 characters)

On tap at the brewpub.

The beer pours an orange color with a white head. The aroma is very malt with a lot of biscuit and toffee malt. The flavor is a little more complex. I get a lot of toffee malt, as well as some floral and perfume notes from the hops. There is also a little bit of orange citrus, as well as a low amount of bitterness. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. (381 characters)

Why is this listed as an ESB and not an English IPA?

Tan to lightly copper colored, a little haze but mostly clear, rising bubbles, a decent head and lacing.

Aroma is hoppy with a notable malt character and that "classic" English IPA nose. Flavor is well hopped with a good yeast character and a well done malt background.

Body is medium and pretty well carbonated, with a lightly bitter finish.

Overall it's an excellent English IPA. (439 characters)
