pale almost clear. seriously smells like vomit. what were they thinking. taste is fine, but doesn't match up to Red Bud. not much length, touch of tartness on the front. feel is clean, crisp. I have 5 more from a 6 pack... anyone want to trade their Red Bud? Ha. (269 characters)

On tap at the brewpub.

The beer pours a hazy yellow color with a white head. The aroma has a lot of wheat notes as well as some grain and a very light amount of tartness. Overall, it smells more like a regular wheat beer than a Berliner weisse. The flavor is more along the lines of what I expected. I get some light tart lemon notes, as well as some sour wheat. Not very tart or sour, but a very refreshing beer that is great on a hot day. Very easy to drink. Thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation. (502 characters)

Bottle shared by leftyhyzer at NWI tasting

A - Light lemonade color with no head; There is a slight haze to it

S - Lemon, vinegar, and slightly grassy nose

T - Tart vinegar and slight lemon up front. The finish is tart and I get a slight sweetarts presence as well

MF - Dry finish with lots of carbonation

O - Solid, slightly tart and refreshing Berliner. It manages to be tart throughout without being too tart or sour. (426 characters)

Thanks to Matt for this one. 22oz. into a Brooklyn Brewery snifter. Shared with schen9303.

Pours no head. Beer is a pale, slightly cloudy lemon. Lacing is spotty and sparse with little stick. Decent legs though. Average.

Nose is exceedingly funky. Notes of lemon, yeast and a tart cheesiness. I can't tell if I love it or hate it. Aromatic though.

Opens light tart lemon zest, citrus and wheat. Yeasty towards the middle with a sprinkling of banana floating around the lightly malty backbone. Finishes with a lemon peel bite. Slightly tart aftertaste. Solid.

Light bodied with moderate carbonation. Slick and watery in the mouth and goes down tart, crisp and refreshing. Accented finish with a lingering, sticky aftertaste. Very solid. Quenching.

The more berliner weisse beers I drink, the more and more I like the style. This one definitely contributes to that trend. Light, crisp, refreshing and super easy to drink. Definitely worth seeking out. (957 characters)

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Hazy yellow with no head. No life.

Smell - Very lemony. Some vanilla? Something there I'm not able to pinpoint.

Taste - Lemony. Again with some flavor I can't discern. Pretty straightforward otherwise. Grainy in the back.

Mouthfeel - Light body. Easy to drink. Not all that sour.

Overall - Decent base berliner. (366 characters)

Big thanks goes out to BeerBuddy2122 for sending me this one as part of a past trade! Shared this one at one of our Random Sunday Tastings! Served from bottle into a Mikkeller taster flute. Poured a hazy pale golden yellow with a half finger white head that subsided to a minimal amount quickly. Maintained excellent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, funk, earth, subtle tart, wood, herbs, and butter. The flavor was of sweet malt, fruit, smoke, wood, butter, wheat, and herbs. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this was a good brew. I had been interested in this brew since seeing the name of it for the first time. I'm quite glad that I opted to trade for this one though. The flavor on this one was quite refreshing while still having a nice touch of earthiness The herbal note was also a nice touch as well that completely came out of nowhere. While this did possess some butter in the nose and flavor, it was actually quite well incorporated into the brew which was nice to see. Really glad I got the chance to try this one and would suggest it to just about anyone if they are given the opportunity. (1,170 characters)

Pale murky light straw body practically no head. Smells of grainy wheat with a lactic twang. Very tart, dry, and cider-esque. Finishes surprisingly malty with a fruitiness from the yeast. Mouthfeel is light and crisp. This is one of the better US-made Berliner Weisses for sure. Actually has some complexity to it, and it isn't mind-bogglingly sour. (355 characters)

Appearance:
Very murky and looks very similar to lemonade with a thin white head that quickly turns into a thins layer of lacing.
Smell:
Vomit to be honest, but very mild with just a hint of citrus
Taste:
Very citrusy, lots of lemon and a tart flavor overall.
Mouthfeel:
Light bodied.
Overall:
Except for the aroma, this is actually a pretty light and refreshing beer, very comforting on a nice hot day. Just to make sure I used three different glasses and washed the third using another sink just to make sure the smell wasn’t coming the glasses. (550 characters)

A: Beer pours a clear light lager body, with a thin white head that disappears within seconds. There is a lot of carbonation in this beer and not stop forming of bubbles that quickly shoot to the top.

S: There isn't tons to the smell, but it is really nice. I am picking up some tart lemon, a slight bit of sweet grain and a bit of funk.

T: I am picking up a lot of sweet lemon tartness and sweet grain.

M: Lots of carbonation in my mouth and extremely light in body.

O: This to me is one of the best made Berliner Weisse I have ever had. Just another great beer by Freetail! (579 characters)

From a 6-pack of cans acquired at Jester King.

Appearance is exactly what I'd expect from a Berliner. Good marks here.

It's got that Lacto smell to it, the same one I pick up in a lot of Lambics and most Berliners. By no means is it my favorite aroma in the world, and in some beers it is too much to get past. This one, it is possible to get past it... which is a good thing, because...

Taste is fantastic. Light, tart and refreshing. Haven't decided where it ranks it ranks among other recent Berliner releases. I like it above Red Bud and Boiler Room, but not sure where it stands next to Live Oak. Will crack into the rest of the 6-pack later to decide. It's right up there with it in my opinion though.

Overall, great beer. I hope Freetail start distribution to Austin soon (besides JK), because I don't make it to San Antonio anymore. (844 characters)
