650ml bottle poured into a stemless wine glass.

The beer pours a slightly hazy golden color, hues of yellow and straw with many bubbles rising to the top of the glass. A thin, loose bubbly white head rises from beer before dissipating quickly leaving no film or lace behind. The aroma is crisp, lightly sour, a bit funky, with some lemon citrus, a bit of oakyness, strong must and grain with floral qualities. The flavors are lovely, bright citrus, tangy and tart, some vinegar sour flavors, musty grain, light funk, a bit of wildflower and chewy oak. The body is lively, crisp, very bubbly that coats the mouth well and finishes with a carbonated bite.

Verdict: Awesome berliner from Freetail, perhaps a bit sour and lemony for my tastes, but still a very refreshing and tasty beer. Its crisp, quenching and straight to the point, not overly complicated or ambitious. The oak aging was a nice touch, adds a bit of earthiness to help calm down the citrus and tanginess of the beer. Perfect afternoon beverage.

A: Beer pours a clear light lager body, with a thin white head that disappears within seconds. There is a lot of carbonation in this beer and not stop forming of bubbles that quickly shoot to the top.

S: There isn't tons to the smell, but it is really nice. I am picking up some tart lemon, a slight bit of sweet grain and a bit of funk.

T: I am picking up a lot of sweet lemon tartness and sweet grain.

M: Lots of carbonation in my mouth and extremely light in body.

O: This to me is one of the best made Berliner Weisse I have ever had. Just another great beer by Freetail!

Off-yellow and pretty clear, about what you could expect of head and lace from this style on tap.

Aroma and flavor are heavy on the sour notes, certainly plenty of grassy and sour lemon peel, a touch of woodiness, slight funk.

Body is light with a heavily sour finish.

Enjoyable brew. Always something interesting at freetail.

I have had this several times now, but finally got a bottle at the most recent Freetail release. This version is actually 3.8% ABV.

A: Pours a slightly hazed golden/orange color. At first a white head rises to well over two fingers. The bubbly and noisy head settles out to nothing. No lace. Pretty much spot on for the style.
S: Husky wheat, cereal grain, and tart fruity lemon. A bit of a mineral quality in the nose as well. Though the tart citrus/lemon is amazing.
T: Again, this is spot on for the style. Husky wheat and cereal grains. Tart and acidic lemon and citrus flavors. The acidity is substantial, but very welcome. Maybe a bit of a mineral flavor as well. Love it.
M/D: A light, crisp, spritzy body. Very effervescent and bubbly. So dry as well. The drinking mans Champagne indeed. So enjoyable to drink. The acidity is strong, but not over barring at all.

A wonderful example of the style. I need to try this and Einhorn next to each other if I get a chance. A really unique style that is finally starting to catch on, well made, and highly recommended.
