This place just opened a month or so ago and they're still in the process of making their beers.

A - Quiet and comfortable. There's a patio outside for smokers. There are also plenty of TV screens to hold the attention of quiet drinkers like myself. There's also a dart board, which I thought was a nice touch. One thing that kinda caught me off guard was the humidity and, well, funk that was coming from the brewing room, which isn't sealed off from the dining area. That threw my palate off a bit, but I doubt that it's a common occurence. I guess that's my punishment for drinking at 3 in the afternoon.

Q - Everything's quite obviously brand new. No complaints here. They only had three BOP beers available when I went, and all three were exceptional.

Service - Very good service. The bartender suffered me gladly and answered all of the questions I had for him. I also had the oppurtunity to talk to one of the brewmasters, who told me about the upcoming brewing schedule.

Selection - They're still working on their BOP brews. They have three available now with another one hitting the taps next week. There's four more that they'll be brewing over the next month or so. I look forward to going back there when they have their full arsenal on tap. In the meantime, they have a great selection of "guest" beers, all Texas micros. They had ten guest beers on tap when I went.

F - Their menu consists of salads, sandwiches, specialty pizzas, a few desserts, and a diverse variety of appetizers. I tried the shrimp alfredo pizza. It was very good, but seemed overpriced considering the size. I tried the Freetail Sub when I went up there a few weeks ago. It was very good as well. They use aged provolone, which was a nice touch, though the bread was a bit stale. And it was also overpriced. Maybe it was the cheese.

Before driving to Austin and leaving San Antonio, I took the wife to Freetail Brewing.

Driving there is no joke- miles and miles of northbound freeway to a point where you are still within city limits but it feels like a subdivision in the middle of nowhere. The space is large and standard, nothing terribly unique but comfortable and functional.

I spotted 19 taps all around, including 15 Freetail and 4 guest taps from Texas. Of the house beers, I tried, in a 5-oz flight of 4 brews, the Old Bat Rastard (winter warmer), Hopothosis (DIPA), Thanatos (7.2% stout) and FT2 Witicus (sort of an imperial wheat). All of them were OK but a little underwhelming aka average. I wouldn’t rush to fill a growler here… although I did like the La Muerta imperial stout I had on tap at Friendly Spot.

I had read about the Freetail pizza and was curious (and hungry!). But both the wife and I were left a little cold… the size is good and the crust is thin, but it lacked flavor all around, from dough to toppings. Not even hot sauce and cheese could save it from blandness. The cheesy bread appetizer was simple and yummy, though.

Service was pretty friendly and prices are not terrible ($18 for a massive pizza). It was a good stop for us and I’m glad I tried Freetail, but I don’t think I will revisit.

Attended for La Muerta release. Did a sampler and beers were good, but not as great as I had hoped. Not as congested as expected either, venue as attached to a mall with plenty of outdoor seating. Service was good and prices reasonable. Will probably go back on a slower day.
