Appearance- Motor oil black relatively thick and opaque, nice frothy dark brown head.
Smell- roasted malty sugars and dark chocolate maybe a hint of dark roast coffee but this nose is relatively mild.
Mouthfeel/taste- very full carbonation beautiful roasted malt and chocolate flavors which become very dry and tannin like. keeps me coming back for another sip. Medium to long finish.
Overall- a big stout, not an imperial or double by any means but not your average dry irish stout either. A favorite of mine the whole season long (feb/march through april/may) wish they made it year round.
Note-compared a 9-12 month old bottle of 2011 to the fresh draft of 2012 and the 2011 had more mellow carbonation and silky mouthfeel but was still great beer. A sign of the quality and the care that goes into this great stout.
(review from March 2012 just got around to posting from old notes)

A-dark brown with a large light brown head that leaves a huge head and a lace that clings to the glass
S-strong caramel malt with a slight roasted aroma
T-strong roast taste with the caramel malt coming in, but then you get a hop bitterness in the aftertaste that fades to a balance of hops, malt , and roasted taste
M-full body, sticky, and low carbonation
O-wow that was great. It has sweetness, it has hops, and it has roasting. Love It!!

NOLA Irish Channel Stout has a thin, beige head, a deep, dark brown appearance, bubbles clinging to the glass, and some thin lacing left on the glass. The aroma is faint, but one can detect roasted malt and some sort of sweet cream. Taste is of sweet, dark-roasted barley malt, char, acidity, some bitterness, and a touch of chocolate. Mouthfeel is light to medium and a bit slick, and NOLA Irish Channel Stout finishes mostly dry, a bit powdery, rich, and decently drinkable. No alcohol detected with this beer.

The roasted barley taste is heavy, which is not a bad thing. The chocolate is very subtle. Tastes/smells/feels like a stout and it's great in a can--except it should have nitro. Better on tap. Nola Brewing should barrel-age this beer. Sold in four-packs of one pint cans.
