A - nice looking beer

S - piney, hoppy dominant

T - really nice combo of hops. Liked caramel-like taste under all the hoppiness. Really get that Columbus hops taste in there

M - medium feel, med carb

O - sorry, not enough time for thorough review (i will revisit and re-review when time permits) but Nola did it right on this one. Not my fave style, but this is nice

For me this is the perfect American IPA. I'm a big fan of malt and have become a big fan of American hops. I know most like a big extremely hop forward beer but this gives you the best of both worlds. Huge malt backbone and huge hop aroma, taste and bitter. It's a great beer.

Appearance is a golden amber with a slight haze

Aroma coming right out of the can just screams hops with big pine and some citra coming through.

Taste is surprisingly malty. Good amount of crystal in this thing. Lots of pine hop character and citrus character.

Mouthfeel is wonderful. Very chewy, very resinous and some lingering bitterness.

Overall this is a perfect American beer for me. I love it. I don't know much about the NOLA brewery other than they're putting out great product.

Had on tap at Avenue Pub New Orleans. Served in a cask glass.

A- Pours a medium amber color with a 1/2 inch off-white head that retains very well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a full sheet of surface foam. Sudsy, resilient lacing clings to the glass.

S- Sweet cereal grain malt aroma with citrusy, resinous hops pushing up against the caramel notes. Absolutely lovely.

T- The hops clamp down hard with a solid twang of grassiness but then turn to tropical fruit sweetness with notes of pineapple, mango and candied orange. But, with all this hop craziness going on, the malt is still there to throw in a good balance of hearty bread.

M- Very sharp with a slight alcohol bite. Medium carbonation and a fullish body.

O- Wow. If this had as high of an ABV as Terrapin's Hopzilla, it'd kick the shit out of it. Sorry to compare two beers just based on the name but that's what happens when you semi-copy someone's trademark. Still, this is one excellent DIPA that doesn't just seem like Hopitoulas X2. NOLA's got a real winner here.

NOLA - Mechahopzilla

Look - Poured into Dogfish Head IPA glass this came out a hazy deep copper amber with a massive soapy head that leaves lots of lacing.

Smell - Sweet caramel malt and faint fruity citrus hops.

Taste - Caramel malt is deep deep underneath, hops are a tinny citrus creeper that finishes pine and a burnt sugar malt.

Mouthfeel - Sits pine bitter and slightly malt sticky. Slightly boozy (warming) but good drinkability. Medium-bodied.

Overall - Decent brew, not amazing but more good than bad. The blending is all over the place, a kick to the face for sure. Worth a shot if you want pine/grassy hops and a rich malt bomb to go with it.

Served on-tap at the Avenue Pub in New Orleans.

Served in Nonic pint. Amber color with thick white head.

Smell is very fruity. Lot of hoppy citrus.

Taste is sweet malts with lots of pineapple citrus. Sweeter citrus hoppiness than other DIPAs. Good bitterness.

Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied. Nicely carbonated.

Overall this was excellent. I really like the fruitiness of this beer. Will definitely try this one again.

Received this as an extra in a trade. Poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - Pours a crystal clear golden hue with a nice one finger off white head that leaves some sticky lacing and a thin blanket.

S - Ah, the aroma of not fresh DIPA! Heh, spoiled by the fresh DIPAs, this smells like, when fresh, it was excellent. Now though, now it is mostly sweet malts. Flashes of the hops that once were, centennial and citra mostly, Sweet grapefruit, bready crackers.

T - Ah, darn. Super, super sweet malts and very generic bitter finish. Light grapefruit. Again, flashes of what it deliciousness once was. The flashes of what it once were though come through though, which is why I have to give it a 3 and not a 2.5 or so.

M - Mouthfeel is on par for the style. Alcohol hidden nicely.

O - Overall, this beer at one point was probably quite delicious. Now though, its a malt bomb. Unfortunate.

NOLA MechaHopzilla has a medium-to-thick, cream colored head, a semi-clear, orange appearance, with lots of bubble streams (etched glass), and minimal lacing. The aroma is full- strong, pungent hop oil and citrus peel, with a shade of background breadiness. Taste is of hop oil, slight pine, bitterness, and citrus peel. Sweet bread balances out the hop attack. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy, and NOLA MechaHopzilla finishes puckering, rich, and delicious. Overall, this is a most excellent beer.

A: Pours a hazy deep amber with a nice foamy whitish head that fades to a great deal of splotchy lace.

S: Definite citrus with grapefruit, peach and mango coming to mind. Also hit with a nice dose of pine and earth and some caramel malt.

T: Up front citrus with beautiful orange, tangerine, and grapefruit. The hops and bitterness come through with some great resinous flavor.

M: Medium bodied and creamy with solid hop bitterness for a DIPA. Alcohol well masked by the hops.

O: I really dig this beer and it is a standard in my lineup. Freshness is key and I will say it is better on tap, but I love these tallboys just as much!

Poured from one of the new pint cans into a snifter glass. The beer pours clear dark copper with a small, white head that doesn't hang around very long. There's a nice breadiness and sweetness in the aroma, but the hops aren't as forward in the smell. I pick up some of the citrus and pine, but it's clear this should be enjoyed very fresh. There's a nice breadiness and sweetness in the aroma, but the hops aren't as forward in the smell. I pick up some of the citrus and pine, but it's clear this should be enjoyed very fresh. The body is medium with moderate carbonation. The finish is dry and there is lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. This is a very good beer that doesn't quite cross over into excellent.
