Stout brewed with chocolate and mint.

Growler from the Nola taproom.

Pours black, with a medium brown finger of fluffy head. No lace and decent retention. The aroma is toasty, roasty chocolate, no real mint. Tastes remarkably like a chocolate cookie with a finishing touch of mint, quite resembling a thin mint.
Body is medium, some creaminess. If it were richer it'd be great.

Overall, I'm digging it. Pulls off the resemblance of a thin mint quite well, without being too sweet.

Purchased from the NOLA taproom. Poured into a snifter.

A- Pours a 99% opaque black color with an 1/8 inch dark tan head that bears little retention time before becoming a thin ring around the edge of the glass and light wisps of surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves a thin ring behind.

S- Heavy mint aroma with a good amount of chocolate backing it up. Just as roasty as it is sweet.

T- The mint isn't as powerful as in the nose but it still makes itself quite know. There's a solid roast backbone to balance and make it taste like you're actually drinking beer. Definitely tastes like a thin mint cookie.

M- Viscous and bold but could use more carbonation to stand up to the heavy body.

O- I've had porters that have attempted this flavor combination before but the malt bill has never been able to stand up to the mint and always ended up being overpowering. Now that it's actually been done with a full-blown stout, the balance is there making everything more enjoyable. Alas, I don't like thin mint cookies thus resulting in a not-so-favorable score but I admire the well done execution.
