Came to Drummondville last Saturday for the Voltigeurs game. This place is about 2 blocks away from the arena. The street and area is sleepy and quiet.

Going in, the lighting is a bit dim and it has a dive/local watering hole feel to it. Two things about this place: 1) No Interac (debit) and 2) no food. The owner was munching on some take out pizza so i'm guessing they allow you to bring your own food. We hoofed it four block away to the nearest ATM and finally came back to have a brew.

The selection is not that great. You have a few beers from Multi-Brasses, one from Au Maitre Brasseur and Brasseurs du Hameau, some McAuslan and thankfully, some Brasseurs & Freres. They had a special, 2 for 6$ so i had a Mort de rire and my friend had a Publick House. Lots of local artwork and sculptures, very eccentric and a little haphazard in their decoration. My wife would freak out here. In the back, there's a section where live bands play. It's rough and unfinished with exposed plywood a little bit all over the place.

Took a seat with a view into their brewing room. They have all the installation ready but they're just waiting for the permit. Had an interesting conversation with the owner. It makes a year and a half that he's waiting with no idea when he'll get it. The main shareholder and head brewer left a while ago so he's running the show. He used to make kitchen cabinets and has no previous experience in commercial brewing and from what i got from our chat, only limited experience in homebrewing. Not extremely promising but he did confide that some brewers would help him set up. He seemed frustrated at the whole process but was rather jovial with us.

Probably the only place in this town where you can get a sampling of craft beer. I'll probably come back the next time i come see a game(especially when he starts brewing), not because it's a must stop place but because i know i can get a semblance of some craft offerings.

Drummondville is roughly at the halfway point between Montreal and Québec City if you take autoroute 20. La brassée is in the center part of town. Parking on the street was easy on a Sunday afternoon.

The place had a bit of a rough, DIY vibe but was clean. Iron structure outside near the wooden patio, and inside the thing that hits you right away are the barstools, shaped like barrels. I don't know where he got these, but they kick ass, in an old man 70's way. Large bar, we sat by the window where our table was a display of some local artwork, an owl made out of what looked like iron wool. Some other artwork for sale on the walls, but it looked like shit some grandmother painted while taking lessons. All that was missing was the sad clown and a still life of a bowl of fruit. There was another section in the back with extra seating and a pool table. The brewing setup is next to this section, not functionnal at the moment. Bonus points awarded for the sign pimping their Metal night, which I think was Tuesday or Wednesday.

A dozen taps were there, most of them empty, not a big surprise for a Sunday afternoon. Still had a few brews left from Brasseurs et Frères and Multi-brasses and Brasserie du Hameau. Bottled fruit Beers were also on offer. My stout tasted fresh.

It was pretty dead, other than a few old drunks on the patio smoking we had the place to ourselves, so the owner took the time to chat with us for a while. Since Drummondville isn't the most cosmopolitan city in the province, he plans to start slowly with the complexity of his house Beers, so expect cookie-cutter blondes and reds at first, but he said that more experimental Beers will soon follow.

I only stuck around for a quick pint, but plan to come back once they put out their own brews.
