Resting patiently in the wooden shadows was this creature of the night. Seldom seen, but whose presence was always respected by all life in the barnyard, this elusive predator was never captured.

Bottle: Poured a clear deep reddish color ale with a large off-white foamy head with good retention. Aroma of light tart notes with some oak is pretty pleasant. Taste is closer to a Flanders red then a dark sour with some oak and cherry notes, light tart notes with light acidic notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Solid beer that would be interesting to compare to something like Rodenbach.

A beautiful looking beer, Obsuritas pours mahogany in color with a thumb's worth of soapy white head. The aroma is strong and evokes sour fruit notes, especially plum. Also present is a woody oak and some malts. Given this beer is a little long in the tooth, the flavors were a little muted, but they came out stronger as the beer warmed. I picked up more sour fruits, cherry in addition to the plum and to me the malts became a bit more present as well. The feel was alright, medium feel with medium-low carbonation.

A nice beer I wish I could have had a little fresher, but still quite enjoyable.

Big thanks to L_Ront for the bottle.

Pours clear and mahogany in color with an off-white, sudzy head, good retention and lacing. The nose has some fruit notes (tart cherries, plums), a bit of oak and a hint of chocolate malt. The taste starts off with the fruit as well, tart cherries and plums, yeast, some nice tart notes, vinous and tasting very Flanders-esque. Medium good with good carbonation makes it smooth and easy drinking. Really loved this bottle and an extra half point somewhere for an great label!

650ml bottle.

Deep mahogany with minimal head and moderate lacing. Wood, sour fruit and sugar on the nose. Oak, plum, tart cherry and some sugar flavours present. Brightly carbonated with medium body. This is a winner

650ml bottle, 2015 edition, and thanks be to fellow BA and all around good guy rogerdandy for grabbing one of these for me. Sufficiently creepy looking label, check that.

This beer pours a clear, dark red-brick amber colour, with three fingers of puffy, broadly foamy, and fairly fizzy tan head, which leaves some rolling hillscape lace around the glass as it gently falls away.

It smells of bright mixed orchard fruit - vinous red grapes, cherries, currants, and withering plums - gritty pale and caramel malt, a small cocoa powder sweetness, subtle funk of the fine cheese variety, some free-range dark sugar, and weak leafy, floral hop bitters. The taste is pleasantly tart red wine vinegar, more soused cherries and plums, laid-back, but supportive bready caramel malt, ethereal bittersweet chocolate, a recessed, beginner-friendly earthy funk, plain weedy, floral hops, and just the suggestion of a hint of booze warming.

The carbonation is fairly peppy in its tightly-rendered frothiness, the body a sturdy medium weight, and more or less smooth, especially given the style, with a softly emerging creaminess (I know!). It finishes off-dry, the caramelized malt still sparring with a lingering tart, funky, and juicy rounded fruitiness.

Wow, all that extra, well, stuff jammed into this sour offering makes for a genuinely enjoyable affair. Even at the risk of alienating yer average sour-head, I gotta say that I like this much better than your unbalanced, acetic acid for the sake of itself wild yeast brews. Oh, and I suppose this goes without saying - if someone up and offers one of these to you - take it!

7.6% ABV, 650ml bottle.
A - cloudy dark brown with nearly no head.
S - sharp, sour, plum, brown sugar. plum plum and plum.
T - low carbonation, sour came first and strong, couldn't taste malty, dry but the plum taste last long.
O - a very interesting sour beer, complex and worth to try. it tastes like the japanese umeshu, but not that sweet, and bit of bitterness. it's fun to try but I wouldn't buy again.

650ml bomber poured into tulip a ways back (from notes)

A dark maroon when held to the light, lots of tan foam fizzes out fairly quickly making some noise along the way, no lace either but I like the color

S hard to place fruit with some cherry and black currents perhaps? a little funk and wet wood, hint of vinegar, some vinous notes and just a little coco in the background with some brewers candy as it warms

T slightly more coco then the nose, some cherry cola, mild funk, a little brewers candy's still there, like Rodenbach made a dubble with some dark malt, still has a little sweetness, very interesting stuff

M not that heavy, a few extra bubbles but not foamy, very slick almost oily on the palate, no booze anywhere, vinegar and cherry linger

O not favorite sour from Driftwood but that still leaves an awesome beer in my glass, I'm curious to how his one will change over time

It reminds me of several styles all in one, well worth looking for and I could see this transforming into something very different down the road

800th review!

Appearance - Pours a chestnut colour with a finger of foamy tan head.

Smell - red wine, oak, dark fruits (cherry, plum), candied sugar, earthy and leafy hops, toffee malts, caramel, and yeast

Taste - Bold flavours from the red wine and oak barrels followed by the dark fruits (cherry and plum) which is the predominate taste. It is supported by the candied sugar, earthy hops, toffee malts, and yeast.

Mouthfeel - Medium with moderate carbonation. Finishes slightly tart with a pleasant lingering stickiness.

Overall - A well executed brew from Driftwood. I like use of the bold flavours and how the way the dark fruits and candied sugar and toffee malts were used in this brew.
