Styled after a traditional Kolsch, this is an interpretation of a medieval Braggot, an ale fermented with honey.

Red Branch Biere de Miele: braggot, 4.2%, opens with a huge pop, head is EXTREMELY active with a very slow dissolve;

Appearance: liquid honey, thick, tiny black flecks;

Smell: honey, sweet beer;

Taste/Mouthfeel: bone dry, thick, malty, medium hop, old fashioned, taste fades quickly, aftertaste is bitter yet light;

Okay.

Poured into a pint glass.

A - Poured out a clear, golden color with a small, white head of bubbly foam. It left thin rings of lace on the glass.

S - It smelled of honey, caramel and floral notes.

T - Good honey flavor, not strong or overpowering. Some caramel and grain sweetness with just a touch of bitterness.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light bodied brew with a somewhat dry finish.

O - This is my first braggot so I wasn't sure what to think. It was interesting and very easy drinking.

Pretty nice stuff. Poured with a huge off white, foamy, fluffy, thick, head that lasts a very long time and very little lace. color is a clear medium amber. Aroma is spicey, wine, honey. Flavor is somewhat crisp, sweet/tart with great tang.Great body and carbonation. Finish is like flavor and so pleasing.

Nice to find another braggot, there aren't that many of them out there. This one pours golden with little head, which is ok given the style. This is styled after a traditional Kolsch, but with honey- their version of a medieval braggot. Smells of citrusy honey and some spice, prevalantly ginger. A bit herbal as well. The taste is somewhat subtle, but pretty nice. A little watery, and seltzery, but with nice notes of orange flower water, some honeyed notes, and a spritz of lemon. Not overly sweet, and quite light. A different take on the style, and enjoyable enough.

Pours a amber-yellow color with a small white head.

Good level of carbonation with average sized bubbles.

Smell is sweet. Maybe a tad of honey, but not sure if this is real or imagined. As the beer warmed I got strong yeasty aromas.

Taste is fruity and citrussy. A nice balance of sweetness to bitterness.

I find the carbonation level a little high and harsh.

Overall so so beer. Not sure I would choose again, certainly wouldn't want more than one.

Not a style I am overly familiar with, but apart from the mouthfeel I think that it is decent for the style.

Poured from swing top bottle into tulip. Poured a nice medium gold with very tall white head that had very good retention and low lacing.

The aroma was a bit sweet, with some grain in the background, and had a bit of sharp tang I couldn't place. The beer wasn't as sweet as the aroma had led me to expect. Nicely grainy, gently balanced hops and a touch of yeast.

The beer was very lively on the tongue, lots of bubbly carbonation, otherwise was smooth and easy. Drinkability was very good, I could easily have several of these.

Overall, a nice beer, in a style I'm not overly familiar with. Worth some effort to try.

500ml into a tulip. Opened with an aggressive PoP. Pours a slightly hazy honey gold. Big fluffy head recedes rather quickly leaving sticky lace.

Aroma of sweet light fruit and pleasant yeast. Yes, I'm smelling honey but it is restrained now consumed by the yeast.

Taste not nearly as sweet as the nose hinted, all the flavors noted in the scent are mild while none assert. I taste no honey which I had hoped I would. Aftertaste trails off slightly dry.

This is summer beer, best served cold. Too light for winter and too mild to improve in taste as it warms. A hot summer night session beer this is.
cheers

Pours a very dark gold color with a big white head.

Aromas are of cereal like grains and honey.

Taste is soft, a bit dry, grainy and with a distinct honey sweetness. Very one dimensional tasting beer.

Mouthfeel is actually kind of nice, good fullness that I believe is from the use of the afore mentioned honey.

Drinkability is OK. It's a drinkable braggot, but man, it's pretty basic, with not much going on. I finished it, but probably wouldn't revisit either...

A = For a beer that is made from honey, it certainly looks the part. Dark honey gold, yet translucent through and through. Nice head, with medium bubble structure and good staying power. 1" head thinned and held at about 1/4" . Left no lacing in the glass though.

S = Much to my surprise, the honey tones were very subdued. It made me wonder why other "honey-brand" brews smell so sweet. With this beer, the hops and grain take the center stage, though the aroma is by no means strong.

T = You know, I taste some grains, but not that cheap "corn" flavor in cheaper brews. The hops provide nice bitter notes, with a roasted, nutty aftertaste. The hops play a nice second fiddle, and the sweetness of the honey is really more of an afterthought. I would have liked to taste some of the sweetness of the honey, but this being the first legitimate Meade I've tried, I have to set this one as the benchmark. I guess I could best say that while all the elements were there and in a wonderful balance, I would have liked it better if the intensity of the flavors were a bit more pronounced. 4.5

M = So crisp, clean bubbly, tingly and refreshing, full bodied, but not chock full of resins. It's everything that mass-brewers show in their advertiesments, but fail to deliver on. Truly exceptional in my book in this category.

D = This could easily become one of my "crack open a cold one" brews on a Friday night with my friends, when I wouldn't just crack open one of my best ales. I think it is a real winner for nearly any occasion.

Pours a golden lager looking color. The head dissapated fast and offers no lacing.

Not much smell going on in this beer. A little honey smell with a sort of lager malt smell

Tastes not that bad. East drinking and interesting with the honey. Never tried this style before. I think I like it. It's is slightly sweet and some malt flavor. Almost like some sourdough flavor going on.

Mouthfeel is good. Nice carb for the beer. It's light but refreshing.

Overall not bad but not something to boast about. I mainly bought it for the cool looking bottle.

500 mL bottle, my first Braggot-style beer, a mix of a Kolsch and mead, 4.2%,

A: Pours typical Kolsch yellow, with a smattering of white bubbles, poor head retention, looked like an ordinary adjunct lager after about a minute.

S: Honey is clearly evident, some light malt.

T: Interesting mix of flavours here. Not particularly robust, but tasty. Light mead, oranges, sourdough bread and white grape.

M: Smooth and crisp. Strong, direct carbonation makes it quite refreshing.

D: Maybe not the traditional Braggot I think made today, but a nice hybrid here. $4.99 for the bottle is a bit too much though, but it was nice to try.

Clear golden colored beer with a good white head.

Strong powdery bee pollen smell and oranges. Almost gives me hay fever from the bee pollen smell.

The taste starts out light and sweet with more of that powdery pollen in the flavor. Light honey malt flavor with a hint of orange flavor.

Mouthfeel is light.

This is OK but not really my kind of beer. A little to flowery for my tastes.
