on-tap, collins pub

appearance: shaker pint, bright and clear golden-copper body, active white foam with light retention

smell: grassy hops, lemon rind, pepper, grains, honey

taste: a solid pilsner that could be in strong rotation come summer time - grassy noble hops, lemon rind, honey, toasted grains, a little peppery bite. nice stuff

mouthfeel: relatively high carbonation, light bodied and easy drinking

overall: a well-done pilsner...somewhat of an anomaly in the region

This is the money beer from these guys. Looks lovely and smells of fresh hops and dough. The beer is slightly grassy in the hops area but is so well balanced and drinkable that you want another. Considering that Boundary Bay is the ale king of the area it is great that the other brewery is a lager centered one. There are not many lagers in Washington compared to BC and this is one of the best.

64 oz growler, cracked couple hours after acquisition.

A: Nice lace, bright golden, clear, excellent yeasting on etching.

S: Classic pilsner hop, grainy

T: Very balanced on the bright hops, not a palate crusher like some pilsners can be

M: Fairly high carbonation, but not overdone for a lager

O: Excellent example of a pilsner...having drank many due to my connection to Czech, this beer is a worthy brew!

On tap at the brewery the other day.

The beer pours a light gold color with good head retention and lacing. The beer has a very pilsner-like nose, with honey, biscuit dough and light pepper. This smells quite nice. The flavor profile in this beer is terrific, and tends to replicate the nose. There is a surprising amount of flavor in this beer, and it finishes with an excellent crisp, bitter finish. The beer is quite light, crisp and refreshing, and drinkability is superb.

No surprise at all that this beer showed well at the recent GABF. This is terrific stuff.

Update from 4/13. Sampled again recently at E9. I was curious to see if the beer had changed much since I had it at the brewery some years back, as Chuckanut has gone through several brewers since then. Happily, the beer was every bit as delicious at E9 in Tacoma as it was at the brewery. This beer is so easy to drink, it's hard not to just drink it right down at a sitting over the course of a few minutes. My pint was gone before I knew it. Just an altogether excellent pils.

A Pilsn's Pilsner. Bright pale yellow, white modest head. Classic noble hop aroma with grassy, flowery tones. A little less dry than some renditions, with typical Chuckanut top-quality German grain coming through, but nicely balanced with generous carbonation and lingering hop bitterness.
