This traditional English-style ESB balances classic East Kent Goldings hops with sweet, crystal malt, and finishes with American Mosaic hops. Named after a backwoods fence in Essex New York which could only be jumped by some sort of 'leaping cow' - we were hungover, don't ask!

Forced my way through this brew. Light, watery, astringent, flat. Didn't enjoy this.

This beer is a coppery red-orange, completely transparent with a fiery flare and quite bright. The head is a bubbly off-white one that starts at about half a finger and gets wispy with time, laying down spotting and light patches as it goes.
Toffee and lightly toasted breads linger sweetly on the nose before some stemmy green comes in with a light bitterness. Toasted nut seems to flash in and out a bit.
Sweet fruits and toffee start and quickly usher in a fairly strong tartness. It dries quickly, even before some wood comes into the middle. The tannins and acidity seem to try to clash some in the middle and some dry, almost but not quite earthy bitterness takes charge in the finish.
A soft crispness rolls consistently through the just-medium body, and it stays semi-dry as sweetness counters the dry bitterness. Tannins and acidity are felt as much as or more than they're tasted, but kept in check. Smoothness is moderate.

For an ESB this one is a a bit malty although in a good way. Good balance and a nice mix of rustic malts and balancing hops. Sensationally drinkable. A beer that if I had access to I would buy on a regular basis.

the lighter and more easy drinking side of American made esb here, I like this one pretty well in a summer context. less malt heft and hop bitterness than other examples, and a rather clean drinking brew on the whole. darker copper in color, but drinking much lighter than it looks. off white head is short lived. I smell classic English malts, esb type with some caramel for color. the body though is missing, and this might seem thin to me if it wasn't the middle of summer right now. hops do more bittering than flavoring, although the vegetal freshness of the higher alpha mosaic hops is not lost, and does most of the finish work here. warmer fermenting ale yeast thins it out a little and dries it up with a light tannic dryness, but the beer is refreshing overall. good to see lake placid doing so many new beers lately.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. The bottle has an interesting little story about how it is named after a special cow that could hop over a fence.
A - A moderate pour yields a 1 finger head that dissipates pretty quickly. Color is a darker transparent amber. Laces pretty nicely.
S - I don't get much on the nose. Light hop aroma.
T - Good flavor from the dark malt up front but is quickly taken over by bitter hops. Not much hop flavor.. Mostly bitterness. This beer finishes pretty dry and I can detect a bit of alcohol in the finish.
M - Well carbonated for the style. Perhaps a bit overcarbonated.
O - A drinkable ESB. A bit unbalanced toward the bitter side but a decent example of the style.
