Poured into an Allagash glass on 11/21/12
The color is a dark copper and rust color with a moderate haziness. The head starts off ample, nearly two fingers' worth, but flashes away quickly to about 1/3rd of an inch. No lace thus far. Some lace catches later.
Oh boy; this smells dish soap, crushed leaves, bland spices you get for 99 cents at places like Aldi, Sav-A-Lot and Geyer's. Sweet potato isn't pleasant; more skin than anything. The overall aroma would not be out of place in a nursing home kitchen.
The taste is all sorts of wrong. It's loaded with the strangest kind of tanginess I've ever come across in a beer (or anywhere else). It's a glob of over ripe fruits and soap and something almost medicinal (but not in terms of bitterness). I guess "soured" is appropriate to use here. Some toasted sugar bread underneath the tangy crap. The spices are mineral-like. Stale finish.
The feel could be decent, but the tanginess leaves the impression of a thin and weak body. Carbonation starts off vigorous, but calms down over time.
Leave it to Indigo Imp to make Autumn a bad thing. I made the poor choice to finish the bottle.

This is a spritzy beer with a translucent, rusty sort of brown-orange color. The loose head, pretty small to being with, died pretty quickly too. There is some activity from the bottom of the glass that keeps up some wisp, but not much more. Very little spotting is left on the glass.
Malts are on the nose with a funky tartness, a little sweetness buried underneath and something like potato skin. It's interesting stuff for sure. There's more earth than funk, which is detectable but more in the flavor. Spices are of the kitchen variety, and not too heavy.
Speaking of, this is almost like apple cider with wild yeast and some sweet potato. Marshmallow is much more subtle but adds a barely noticeable note in the sweetness. It's tangy and sour in almost equal measure along with something like earthiness and a floral note, very light, seemingly from a meager addition of hops. Kitchen spices come in underneath. It's hard to know what the brewers were going for, but it is a vegetable beer.
This is crisp like a cider and semi-dry, almost exactly in the middle as far as tart dryness goes. It's got quite a bite. It does have a bit of smoothness running in it though. The body is about medium.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass
A: Transparent light brown with a 1/2-finger head
S: Malt-heavy but I do get the sweet potato and marshmallow mentioned on the label coming through
T: WOW is this sour. Almost undrinkably so, and it really dominates anything else this beer has going on. The malt is lost, the sweet potato is lost, the marshmallow is lost. I thought my palate would get re-calibrated to the sourness but it never did.
M: On the thinner side and puckering from the sourness
O: Overall I appreciate what Indigo Imp is doing but I find their beers can be quite hit or miss, sadly this is one of the misses

Interesting new fall brew from Cleveland local Indigo Imp - picked up a cool boxed 4 pk at Heinen's Tuesday evening....in their weekly ad / flyer starting today - Wed 9/5 - I read this one is exclusive at Heinen's for the first week release, then available elsewhere second week of September...
Being a HUGE Pumpkin ale fan, was curious to try a fall ale made with sweet potatoes and spices, and open fermentated like all Imp brews, and this one with a Belgian yeast strain. Was wondering if it would be similar to the Bruery's Autumn maple brew....hmmmm.
Love the great autumn-like label, with goldish leaves and their mascot imp front and center, nicely done!
Pours a deep dark, almost brown ale color, nice head and lacing, and smells pretty fall like!
Taste is a very subtle belgian tinged complex blend, toasted marshmallow, almost coconuty, toffee, caramel, and fall spices of cinnamon and nutmeg...I am digging it! The roasted sweet potato gives an interesting and complex flavor profile...drinking it on a damp cloudy day that feels like the autumnal equinox is less than 2 weeks away....
Mouthfeel is good, difficult to classify this one...it feels like other fall / pumpkiny beers, but in a different and pleasant way....I will likely grab some more of this one! Very unique and nicely done...worth seeking out and the price is right!
