This place is dimly lit inside with some comfortable booths and couches. Outside are some benches so people can smoke. There is some nice light music to build ambience.
THere are a lot of taps here. I see some stick around a little bit long, but it seems like they sell a good amount of beer for the most part and nothing seems too old.
Service is ok at best. I get ignored a lot. It took me 15 minutes to close my tab the other night. It gets to be a pain in the ass sometimes. I sometimes go here with my friends to meet people and the waitstaff will interrupt and essentially cockblock us from time to time. Not to mention, they don't often check up on their tables to ensure everyone has a beer. That being said, the owners are nice and there are some nice people who work here.
Selection is nice. I think there are about 45 taps and maybe 50 bottles here. My gripe is that shit is SUPER FUCKING EXPENSIVE at times. Some taps are 5 bucks a piece, which is a bit high, but last night my celebrator double bock cost me 12 dollars!

A) great. The people who Hang out are nice and chill.
Q) great job matching beer glasses to style of beer. Knowledgable and beer is always fresh.
S) Great service, and the waiters/waitress are always knowledgable about the beers they have on tap. Service is prompt, yet not overwhelming.
Selection) the best selection in the valley. Dogfish 90, chimney, rockefort, etc etc.
F) the food is great, but a tad salty.
V) a tad on the expensive side, but worth it.

By far the BEST pub the valley has. The ambience is chill. The best part is that they carry Trappist brew such as Chimay, Orval, Rochefort, Westmalle and La Trappe. Their brew selection is divine along with their food. I highly recommend it to all my peeps. LOVE it!

Was there on a weekday evening with coworkers. The service was awesome as the waiter explained the various craft beers that they had on tap, (around 40), and the food. He recommended a good beer pairing for the food that we ordered. Our beer glasses never emptied as the waiter was always ready to refill or bring us a new beer to try. The atmosphere reminded me of what I imagine an Irish pub to be. Enjoyed it and plan to return soon. They have a 5 course meal, once a month that includes beers properly paired to the dish. I hope to partake of that one day soon.

The beer selection is great. A wide variety of brewers and styles that has varied the few times I have been. ONe of the few places I have been able to compare 4 or 5 IPAs at the same visit. Most seldom have more than 2. Being in Texas it does have some limited distribution that people from either coast would miss. It tends to get more left coast than right or upper Midwest, so no Bells or Victory or Smuttynose, etc. but heavier on Left Coast, Great Divide, Stone. Bartender is happy to discuss his likes/favorites and always provide a taste if you are interested.
The food is really good. The sandwiches are excellent and the Sammy Davis Pasta has great heat (I live in Louisiana...I know :)) and adding shrimp, salmon, etc for only $6 makes it a steal meal for $15. Plenty to eat.
Decor is very "bar" like with a funky feel. Bar is a long vertical slab of sealed wood and curves and twists a bit. About 3 booths offer some private seating and the rest is about 10-12 tables with lots of beer signs, etc around. Check the ceiling. Tap handles of beers they have had on tap almost ring the room on a shelf. There is the patio...haven't been to it yet but you can hear it for sure :)
Definitely worth finding and they just started a beer/food pairing night....like smoked duck or lamb, etc....not just the menu.

I heard about Roosevelt's from a local while sitting at the bar @ BJ's in McAllen. This place is a treasure; they have 30+ taps of carefully selected beer. For me while traveling across Texas on business, finding such a rich array of offerings in the Rio Valley is a personal triumph.
I had Real Ales [Austin] 16th Anniversary Ale - a very tasty doppel; Rogue's Brutal Bitter - a very drinkable ESB I'd not had before; and Left Coast's Hop Juice to satisfy my hops "fix." It was a most enjoyable evening thanks to Roosevelt' s rich, wide and deep range of taps.
Their menu is solid, too - appealing range of offerings; I had the Cobb Salad which was well executed. I was there on a Friday night and it was fairly busy but the service didn't miss a beat. They don't print a beer list to be sure to tell your server your beer preferences and they'll make a recommendation. These guys know their beer...whenever I'm near McAllen, I'll be there.

Great variety of good beers on tap. You won't find bud light here!! The atmosphere is comfortable and relaxing. I was there on a Wednesday evening and it was very enjoyable...dimly lit...good music and a great club sandwich.
Now the bad: the service sucked. Getting my first beer was easy and then it all went downhill. No one came back to my table for 40 minutes, and the place was not crowded at all. My server knew nothing about beer! They don't have a beer menu so I had to walk up and look at the taps all night. Poor service can ruin an evening, no matter how good the atmosphere.
Luckily for them they are the only place in McAllen to get good beer on tap.

Great place. I look forward to visiting them every time I am in town. Great selection of beers (for McAllen), nice food menu, great food quality, very friendly service, it's always a pleasure to visit them! I would like to see them tune in the NFL games, and as with too many pubs the noise can get waytoo loud, but it is a great pub, and a very nice addition to McAllen. Their beer garden is great, and if you want really good Mexican food, there is a great Mexican food restaurant just several blocks away.

Well as far as selection goes this place is the best your going to get as far as bar in the RGV. At least 30+ taps and a lot more in bottles. If you get to go in the early hours the service is a lot better. I usually go anywhere from 3pm to 5pm. It gets a little busy towards the evening and service can get pretty bad. The food is pricey but very good. I haven't eaten a meal there that i did not like. Also they seem to get new beers quite often. Every time i go they have at least 5 new beers. If your in town or haven't been here its worth a visit.

So here's the story. I moved to McAllen from the Pacific Northwest, which is a land of beer enchantment. I knew coming in that McAllen would be an adjustment when it came to beer selection. Granted the scores might be a little skewed to adjust for my NW expectations.
Roosevelt's has been the shining star so far in my south Texas experience. They have a decent selection of taps (30+) though I do wonder about the appeal of some of them. For an area that doesn't seem to be too into beer, there are some very obscure beers here. I do wish there was a better selection of IPAs on tap. I have been there 3 or 4 times now and have only seen one IPA on tap (Widmer Broken Halo). They do have a few IPAs in bottles but all of the other beers they tout as IPAs are really double or imperials. I like those as well, but most of the time I want to enjoy a beer drinking experience and after more than a couple of imperials things get a little dicey.
That being said, Roosevelt's is worth checking out to see what's on tap and have a beer that's worth drinking. I do warn that service can be spotty depending on who you get behind the bar. I've had great service, so-so service and super slow service. If they could get that settled up it would be a perfect place for a beer drinking event. And the atmosphere could get knocked up to a higher rating if they would just dim the lights a little bit at night. Maybe it's just me but bars shouldn't be super bright at night...
