22oz bottle in a snifter.

A- Pitch black with a minimal brown head that does not last at all but leaves generous lacing.

S- Chip up a bourbon barrel, soak the chips for a while, and add them to lit charcoal... that was the aroma.

T- Hearty ale, malted, over very woody smoked bourbon .

M- Full and rich. Not too boozy for a big brew. Smooth smokiness.

O- Natural wood and smokiness were nice. Nothing artificial. (417 characters)

The beer has aggressive notes of oak and wood chips. Bourbon slightly comes through along with a toffee and dark fruit sweetness.

There's almost a smokiness because of the amount of big woody and deep toasted wood chips flavors in there.

The beer would be perfect to be paired with beef jerky or some smoked barbecue. A really interesting beer where "woodiness" works very well. (381 characters)

22 oz. bomber with a gray waxed cap. No bottling or expiration date visible.

A: Pours pretty much pitch black with a one finger brown head. Head retention is about what you would expect for a 14% ABV beer. Lacing is good.

S: Smells VERY good. Strong bourbon profile along with prolific smoke and wood notes. Dark fruit esters are also prevalent, as well.

T: Taste is obscenely layered and deep. Strong bourbon hit up front. Lots of notes of oak, smoked wood, and sugar. Along with the bourbon, there are also hints of prune, fig, and other sweet, dark fruit. There's a touch of smoke present, as well. There is a touch of hops near the end and finishes slightly bitter, alcoholic, and bourbon-y.

M: Slightly thick, syrupy body. Carbonation is appropriately low for the style. Alcohol profile is actually pretty subdued for a beer of this strength. Easy drinking for the complexity and ABV.

O: This was an extremely pleasant surprise. This bourbon aged beer surpasses some of the big hitters, in my opinion. It's complex, tasty, and drinkable. However, with such a limited distribution, not too many people will be able to experience this amazing beer.

Thanks again, Amy, for these amazing beers! (1,205 characters)

A 4 - Dark brown/black beer with a nice tan head on it that dissipates down to a thick film of bubbles. Cool wax on the bottle. No lacing.
S 4.25 - Bourbon, vanilla, toffee, caramel, cream. Oak barrels.
T 4 - Booze, Bourbon, vanilla, toffee, caramel, cream, oak barrels.
M 4 - Thick, medium-heavy, alc present, aftertaste bourbon/vanilla/cream/toffee. Great beer
O 4 - This beer is on par with Bois or double DBA. Better than Freudian Sip. (442 characters)

Bottle pour at Woodshop 8 held at The Hermosillo in Los Angeles, CA.

Pours a murky brown with a foamy khaki head that fades to nothing. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is of smoked malt, campfire, bourbon, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with caramel, fruit, smoke, and bourbon flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of woody bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and sticky mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer that has a nice balance between the smoke and bourbon aspects. (563 characters)

Very smooth and drinkable (especially for a beer at 14%). Definitely pick up the smokey notes and slight bourbon flavoring, though that could also be because of the high alcohol content. Overall this is the best offering Joseph James has put out. I'm glad I bought a 2nd bottle so I can have this again! (303 characters)
