Appears with a deep slight cloudy, amber-colored body. Lots of bubbles and a frothy, tan 2-finger head. Smells sugary, with caramel. papaya and lemon.
Taste has a bitter punch upfront but is quickly dominated by sweet papaya, caramel and generally reduced, caramelized tropical fruit. The alcohol isn't hidden and adds the the sugary flavor. Finishes with a touch of bitterness, lots of caramel, alcohol and a bit of dryness.
Mouthfeel is lively with a semi-syrupy feel. The alcohol becomes more noticeable as the beer warms and along with the growing sweetness, this is just a bit too much to enjoy. It was ok at a colder temperature but as the true flavors show, it becomes tiring and just not enjoyable.

Appearance: Pours with a head of about two and a half fingers. Golden, glowing orange color. On the lower side of active carbonation. Sticky lacing left behind at each level.
Smell: Grainy caramel hits first. Straw with some heavier saturated citrus fruits shows up on the body. The back end sweetens up a bit with some spiciness.
Taste: Caramel malts greet the palate. Pine and heavy citrus hop profile jumps the drinker. Grainy finish with some lighter, spiced notes which are pretty interesting.
Mouthfeel: Carbonation is low. Dry finish with some malt sweetness.
Overall: A pretty middle of the road DIPA. Nothing really stands out, too malt forward. Just feels like they didn't take any risks making this beer.

Poured slightly chilled in hotel glass at the North American Patristics Society conference, 2014, Hyatt Chicago.
A: semiclear amber, good carbonation, very robust, creamy head
S: luscious hop aroma; grass, a bit of pine; lingers nicely; v. inviting
T: grainy, dry, very bitter flavor; booze comes through nicely; needs to be sweeter for the style
M: a bit rough in the mouth
I don't plan to return to this beer; there are much better IIPAs out there.
