Pours a cloudy copper color with a finger of white head that dissipated quickly but left some lace behind. The nose is citrusy and hoppy. The malt flavor is upfront, but it is accompanied by a perfumey sweetness that is less than pleasant. The hop profile is strong, but it does not blend well with the malt.

For those who think that really hoppy beers automatically get high scores, I give you this offering - really hoppy, but NOT terribly good.

Poured from a can into a shaker pint, the beer is a very bright, slightly hazed, goldenrod coloring with a tall, big bubbled, fluffy, off-white head with good retention and standing a solid inch. Aromas of tangy tropical fruits forward, with a subtle spice and bitter blend. Tangerine, mango, and melon seem to make up the forefront of the nose. Flavors are a bit more subdued, with the tropical fruit presence supported on a sweet and slightly buttery backbone. Very malt heavy palate, with a subtle bitterness being overpowered across the palate. Resin notes are there if you dig a bit, as well as some peppery and grassy characteristics, but the prominence of the rich, sweet notes dominates. The body is light and smooth, leading to a slick, slightly bitter finish. The aftertaste carries the most hops characteristics, with bitter and roasted notes throughout. A little off-balance for my tastes personally, but not a bad beer.

Took a chance & bought a 4-pack. No freshness dating

Pours an effervescent bronze with a thumb of ivory colored head. Good head retention & lacing

S: Pineapple, breadyness & grapefruit

T: Pineyness, herbal hops, & a touch of grapefruit, then a little bit of pears & leafy hops. Leafy & woody hops as this warms & a bit of dryness & caramel, a bit more pear & grapefruit. Finishes dry, piney with leafy hops & a kiss of breadyness & a little bit of aspirin

MF: Medium bodied, firm carbonation, nice balance

A pleasant surprise, not great, but this would do in a pinch

Appearance: Opaque orange glow with a lofty three-finger off-white head.

Aroma: Floury malt and orange zest.

Taste: Orange and earth hop bomb. Hint of grapefruit in there as well but the earthy character oversteps its welcome a bit and/or doesn't mix well with the citrus flavors here. The malt balances well but doesn't provide any unique flavor, just lots of 2-row flavor. Least bitter during the finish, with lingering earthy bitterness in the aftertaste. Thick but not all that robust at 9.3% ABV.

Mouthfeel: Full in body and almost chewy. Good carbonation and decent drinkability.

Final Thoughts: Just what the craft scene needs, another earthy/orange mess of an imperial IPA. Possibly half-decent fresh but I wouldn't know since there is no date on the can anyway. The only thing that makes this beer imperial is the ABV because the bitterness is on par with only an average IPA. The only positive is that there is a slight juiciness to the flavor at times. Would I drink it again? Unlikely.

22oz bottle from Albertson's (Las Vegas, NV). 6.99. No apparent bottling date. Served in a small wine glass.

Pours a murky orange with a finger and a half of frothy head. Nice retention but not much in the way of lacing.

Nice nose of citrus and piney hops. Orange, mango, pine, lemon zest and biscuit.

Taste follows the aromas well. Mandarin, orange peel, mango, pine sap, bread, biscuit, floral, pepper and a touch of alcohol. A tasty blend that masks the near-10% abv well.

Oily, slick, medium body with moderate carbonation. Bitter pine and citrus finish.

A well made imperial IPA. Deliciously balanced with the scales tipped towards those piney and citrus hops though there is a nice pronounced sweet bready malt backing. Perhaps not a favorite if mine but it is the best local brew I've had so far while visiting Vegas. Worth a try and I'll most likely grab more before heading home.
