Cool beer. Light and dry with the rye spice kicking up in the finish. The Citra shines early with a floral nose and melon and berries rolling into the citrus of the flavor. Very drinkable. I'd have another.

This thang, yeah... how about that? Kind of like when this one hottie said that Raul looked like Emile Hersche - yeah, I'll take it. I may not really be close in looks to said "heartthrob," but, ya know... Citra Rye by Joseph James on the other hand reminds Raul of Pliny. More like Pliny-lite, but it's good territory to be in.

Bitter, a bit crisp, clean like a Sunday wash...

Raul approved.

Joseph James knocked this one out of the ballpark.

Orange-gold in apperance, Citrus scent of tangerine and hops.

Taste consists of more citrus, some malt sweetness, and a nice, slightly more than subtle, hop presence; blends perfectly with this easy drinking, low abv, rye pale ale.

A new go-to from Joseph James.

On tap at Newhall Refinery in Newhall, CA.

Pours a hazy golden-yellow with a foamy off-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, citrus fruit, citrus zest, and orange juice aromas. Taste is much the same with citrus fruit, citrus zest and spicy rye flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop and earth bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice balance of citrus forward hops and spicy rye in the flavor.

12oz can poured into a TG snifter 8/22/2014.

A- Light golden-yellow body, half finger white head, a bit of retention, thin wispy lacing. [3.75]

S- Grassy, a slight hint of citrus, rye, caramel. [3.75]

F- Caramel, distinct spicy rye flavours, grassy hop flavours, subdued citrus. The malt is shining a bit more here, in a good way although I would never mind more citrus presence. [3.75]

M- Medium body, not particularly thin or thick but just about right. Good carbonation. Finish is that distinct spicy rye mixed in with some grassiness. [4]

O- Pretty solid pale ale that's a bit of a change-up with the rye adjunct. Wouldn't mind if this was a $10/6-pack local beer. [3.75]
