The nose feels a bit like banana compote of fruit with a slight hint of strawberry. Very sweet, very sweet and bubbly, beer has a strong flavor of the banana in the taste of beer being present. And although the finish is slightly bitter, like the banana peel and the taste of banana blends rather well, the beer is nevertheless aimed at a market of young consumers. (365 characters)

Chapeau Banana lambic pours out with
minimal head over a golden brew with
considerable suspended chunks. The nose
is sour and vinous and of oak. The flavor is
slightly sweet and tart and is more like cider
than banana. The mouthfeel is round and a
bit syrupy. I'm used to seeing floaties in beer
but for some reason these floaties were a turn
off. Some of them were pretty chunky though.
I won't be revisiting this brew again. (437 characters)

Banana lambic. Hmmm...

Poured into a jelly jar (most of my beer glasses are in storage after a long haul move from DC to San Antonio, TX, so my glassware is limited). Appears a dirty blond color with a light fizzy head. No lace. Very un-Belgian looking. The nose is fruity. Lots of banana, as expected, but also some decent generic lambic scents. Not bad. Not great, but not bad. The taste, however, is where things begin to go south. Way too pungent, it delivers a tart and tangy acid-banana flavor. Not exactly tasty. It could be worse, I suppose, but this would be a lot better off if it were a bit more subtle. Mouthfeel is okay, but everything is offset by the strength of the taste.

Chapeau Banana is not the worst beer I've ever had. But I really like lambics, and this one is just a bit too over the top for me. If the brewery dumbed down the tartness just a bit and made the whole thing a tad less stringent, it might actually work. But as it is, it's just too much to really enjoy. (995 characters)

The beer pours a hazy yellow color with a white head. The aroma has some banana notes but there is also some lactic tartness hidden in there. Definitely not as fruity smelling as I expected. The flavor is pretty sweet with a little bit of tartness and some syrupy banana notes. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Overall, this is not a good lambic. That being said, it isn't offensive and I expected it to be worse. (421 characters)

A- clear straw with tons of floaters, 1/2" tight white head, little retent

S- ripe bananas, yeast, hints of wood

T- high sweetness, lots of banana, aftertaste has some wheat, overall just ridiculously sweet banana, ridiculous cause there's little else

M- high carbonation, light body, soda/juice like

D- way too sweet for me, some tartness would bring this brew a long way, worth w try for fun, but don't expect a miracle (433 characters)

Big thanks goes out to my doppelganger for sharing this one with me at a past tasting! Served from bottle into a Mikkeller taster flute. Poured a bright yellow with a minimal pure white head. There was no lacing evident throughout the glass. The aroma was comrprised of sweet malt, banana, earth, and funk. The flavor was of sweet malt, overly sweet banana, subtle wood, and subtle funk. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this really wasn't that impressive. I had seen this one on the shelf for quite some time and always joked about trying it for the 'tick', but never got around to it. Leave it to my evil doppelganger to make sure I got the chance. And what a chance it was... Phew, this thing tasted like banana laffy taffy with some wood and funk added. WAY too sweet for me with these flavors going on as they didn't balance well at all. Worth trying though to say you have at least once, but drinker beware. (952 characters)

I am drinking this cold in a snifter. The beer pours like fizzy champagne a clear gold color with no sediment. A fizzy bleached white head foams up 1 cm and fades to a surface layer quickly. Aroma is not surprisingly lots of banana at first and some bread notes and definite wet blanket funk come through as the glass breathes.
First sip reveals a lite body and fine fizzy carbonation that is prickly on my palate. Flavor is sweet and tangy banana and also some general tart fruit notes. The beer is generally sweet and sticky and reminds me of fizzy fruit juice. Not a favorite or one I would return to, but a beer experience nonetheless. (641 characters)

Bottle

decants with a decent hazed yelloe lambic..fair cap..good lace

Aroma; yup wet horse blsamket but the fruity notes of banana are synthetic and perfumey...spoils it

Tate is ok but the sugar and banana concentrate added kind of screw it...underneath is a decent lambic....pity the fruit flavoring wasn’t more real and less sweet. (337 characters)

Poured a deep yellow with a soft and bubbly head. The lacing was pretty good, I had this out of a wine glass.

Smell: Pure banana and very sweet. Not in any way spiced or resembling the kind of hefeweizen banana aroma but much more sweet smelling

Taste: Quite one dimensional with no real complexity but I don't think that was the brewer's aim here. This is pure banana and not far from what I think a banana soda might taste like.

Mouthfeel: This is maybe the best feature of the beer, and its saving grace. Medium bodied with a crisp but medium carbonation (560 characters)

Thanks to Bobby for sharing this one.

A: The pour is a hazy golden color with some floaters in it and a mild white head.

S: The nose is of banana candy, but it's not all that intense. I wish I had more to say, but that's really all there is.

T: This beer tastes like the banana flavored Runts candies. A weirdly sweet and intense banana flavor that I cannot quite decide if I like or note. Only a hint of sourness to this beer.

M: The body is on the light side of medium with a moderate carbonation.

D: Sort of a love hate relationship with this beer. I enjoyed the intense banana flavor, but it just seemed way too artificial at times. (641 characters)

250mL bottle from LCBO. Pours a pale light straw. No head. The first taste assaults the tongue with a profile like apple juice. There's a bit of banana in the middle, but the sourness prevails. I'm actually happy this isn't the light, bland experience I was expecting. I'm certainly drinking something - I'm just not sure it's beer. (332 characters)

A - clear yellow... not much head on this.

S - Yep smells like bananas.

T - Sour. Bananas. A touch of apple in the back as well. Very candy like and sweet of course.

M - Fizzy and light.

D - OK I guess. My girlfriend says it tastes like the dollar store, and that the pineapple one is better... Anyway, it is what it is. Drinkable, sweet. Not very beery. (366 characters)

Very little in the way of a head, just a thin band despite a fairly aggressive pour. Totally clear, pale gold color; looks like a ginger ale. Lacing is extremely minimal – almost none there at all.

Aroma is sweet candied bananas, with faint Belgian yeast and spice notes underneath. Taste is also sweet but short of cloying; like a lightly alcoholic banana cider concoction; or a banana/apple soda. The faintest hint of tartness and tang is overwhelmed by the sweet banana flavor. Simple taste; nothing complex or subtle here.

Finishes fairly clean and dry; just a touch of lingering banana sweetness remains. Hard banana cider? Ultimately it’s tasty if you like soda and bananas but I can’t really say this is a “beer experience” in any way. (755 characters)

Sampled from a bottle at The Sunset Grill in Boston.

This "lambic" poured a clear, light yellow color with creamy, white foam that persisted fairly long. The smell was banana, followed by a sour, wild, lactic, horseblanket, brettanomyces aroma. This was a somewhat odd juxtaposition of smells. The taste was lightly sweet with the flavor of banana bread or baked bananas followed by a tart and somewhat wild sourness. A note of coconut was detected as well. The mouthfeel was tart and mildly sweet and wild all at once. The body was medium-light with moderate carbonation. This was an odd beer. It was a bit too sweet for my tastes (and I presume for most hardcore lambic fans), but yet it was not so sweet that the lambic flavors and feels did not come through. You do need to be a banana lover to like this beer. (817 characters)

I've never had a Chapeau, another candy like lambic from Belgium. Instead of the effervescent champagne head I'm used to with Lindeman's I barely got any bubbles even after a pretty hard pour. The Banana Lambic, I've seen the beer a hundred times over the years, and never even thought once that I need to try this, until now. Looks like a mild carbonated cider thin white head, aroma has some tartness and hints from the oak barrels along with the candy like banana natural banana flavor additions. Slightly tart underneath, with a Wonka candy, Runts like banana flavor. Very sweet more than one would give you a stomach ache, this is not true lambic but definitely good for moderation or dessert. Overall mouthfeel is cloying residual sugars build up on the palate with each sip, low carbonation doesn't carry the syrupy texture very well either. Overall an interesting take on a Belgian inspired classic style like Lambic. (925 characters)

Poured into a stange, it looks like a very tasty beer very attractive too...
It has a very thin white head that makes a perfect ring around the glass with medium lacing and partially covers a medium blonde body with some very active carbonation. The banana aroma is very strong, in fact that's about all I can smell and it reminds me of banana pudding mixed up with soy sauce. Well, thank god it doesn't taste like that, but it is sour, refreshing and crisp but it taste like Welch's grape soda and a life-savers, very sweet, a banana flavor is present but is not over powering and is mildly tangy in its aftertaste. It's good but the sweetness in this one is too strong for me, but it would go great with some desserts or be great in a dessert either which way it would be tasty. (780 characters)

A: Pours a hazy golden straw color with little head, some lacing.

S: Banana and some funk, slight sherry maybe.

T: Heavy banana flavor, some vanilla and funk, slightly tart and cloyingly sweet.

D: Thin body but the banana is very assertive on the taste buds, champagne like carbonation.

D: You have to love banana to like this one, too sweet for me but a nice enough flavor to make it worth trying. (404 characters)

Okay, this is a new style of lambic for me, that is for sure. This beer poured a pale clear yellow color and formed a very small bubbly white head that left trace lace as it subsided. No carbonation present outside of the small head. An aroma like lambics with the barnyard/grass elements with of course the banana that this one contains. The flavor is similar with lambic style with a medium light taste of banana. The finish was tart and a touch astrigent. Really not my style for a lambic but just had to try it. (515 characters)

Poured from a bottle at Lexington Beerworks (KY)

Light amber, clear and high visible carbonation - like an Amer. lager. Decent head and lacing.

Very floral and moderately fruity saison aroma with light farmhouse character, less banana than expected. Over-ripe banana.

Flavor: more banana. Also apple juice. Some tartness but still a bit sweeter than I would prefer.

Light body; medium plus carbonation. semi-dry finish. (425 characters)

Pours a clear, gold color. 1/5 inch head of a white color. Slight retention and slight lacing. Smells of slight hop, slight yeast, citrus, tart malt, and acidity. Fits the style of a Lambic - Fruit. Mouth feel is sharp and crisp, with an average carbonation level. Tastes of tart malt, citrus, sweet malt, slight yeast, and hint of hop. Overall, barely an average example of a lambic -fruit beer. (396 characters)

Banana lambic?! Hm, should be interesting.
Pours pale yellow, bit of lace.
Smell of dried banana chips, candi sugar, bit of cidery tartness and floral honey.
Not as syrupy sweet as expected it to be from the smell. Acidity hits at first, with apple cider, faint sour cherries and very faint lemon zest. Banana follows, but green and unripe, not too sweet and sticky. Nice clear Belgian sugars, again, not sticky. Good lambic funk, with mild green notes in the dry finish.
Light bodied, medium fizz, lingering fruitiness, white grape-like dryness and a bit of candi sugar.
A good fruit lambic, tasty natural banana feel, nice balance and flavours. (646 characters)

A: The beer is clear light yellow in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a very thin head that quickly faded away, leaving delicate lacing covering the surface and a thick ring of large bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of bananas in the nose along with some hints of sweetness.
T: Similar to the smell, the taste is dominated by flavors of bananas and some hints of sweetness. It isn’t cloying because there is some underlying tartness from the lambic.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate with a slight amount of carbonation.
O: The beer is very easy to drink compared to other banana lambics because it isn’t overly sweet and doesn’t have flavors that taste artificial. (755 characters)

Appearance: The bottle states it is an Authentic Lambic Beer. 12.7oz into a flute. One of the lightest hued beers I've ever seen, has a dirty water appearance with a very small wisp of head.

Smell: Banana runt candy. Fruity and sweet smelling.

Taste: Interesting. Lots of banana flavor. Somewhat sweet like most of the Chapeau line, but has a hint of sour and mild tartness about it. Just a touch of oaky dryness finishes it out, but mostly sweet bananas. The flavor mimics banana candies, banana wine or syrup, though sour.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied, carbonation is low. It comes off a little syrupy, and has a small lingering tartness and notes of banana.

Overall: A unique concept that succeeds in its design. A banana lambic beer, very bright, fruity flavor and alittle sourness to redeem it as beer. Would go great with waffles. (835 characters)

Golden in color with a white head that dissipates rather quickly. It is a very fresh, clean smelling beer, with fruity banana aromas. It is very fresh tasting with a bit of the banana in the flavor, but not as much banana as in the aroma. It has a more apple-like flavor, which flows to a slight banana flavored dry finish. It has a clean, wine-like mouthfeel. It is a definite after dinner, dessert beer. Not too bad, but I couldn’t have more than one in a sitting. (472 characters)

Of course I tried it. How often do you see a bannana lambic? My first impression was pleasant. Beautiful golden color with a white head that stays. The traditional lambic aroma is presant, but is secondary to the bannana. The taste isn't as much bannana as it is those little bannana candies you see in those machines you see outside the grocery stores. Tastey, but way sweeter than a bannana should be. The more I drink it, the more the sweetness gets unpleasant. The mouthfeel could use some improvement. With something this sweet and light, a little carbonation could help. (576 characters)
