I've tried a few others from this brewery (Apricot, Banana, and Framboise) and this is the one that stands out in my mind. I've gone back to it several times, even after getting a funky bottle. When it's good, it's good.

Seems to do better in a flute glass. Served in a flared Liefmans flute.

Pours a frothy dark red with pinkish brown foam. Smells of tart & sweet strawberry, and earthy oak. Finish is more like raw, earthy ginger root and celery.Tastes moderately sour at first, the fruit and oak flavors are both pronounced. Sweetens up on the end, with a residual funky, earthy taste. Mouthfeel is somewhat carbonated, a little like fruit juice though. One is enough for me.

This is pretty unique, and worth trying if you find it.

Appearance – The deep, dirty, brown body of this Lambic was tinged with orange. There was no head to be had on this fruity brew.

Smell – The aroma here is more like sour strawberry taffy then real strawberries.

Taste – I was amazed at how mild the taste was after smelling that nose. The super-sour threat never materialized. What I did find though is a sweet ‘n sour flavor with light strawberry notes and a nice, light, sugary malt backbone.

Mouthfeel – This is big for a Fruit Lambic, definitely closer to medium-bodied than light, but was fairly flat.

Drinkability – This is a rather bland but drinkable example of the style.

The beer pours an orange color with a white head. The aroma is heavy on the vegetables with some strawberry notes mixed in. The vegetable notes are something I get from a lot of the Chapeau lambics. The flavor is heavy on the sweet, sugary strawberries with some grass and vegetable notes. Light tartness, but overall the beer is still pretty sweet. Medium mouthfeel and low carbonation.

Served from bottle at Lexington Beerworks (KY)

Medium orange-amber, clear. Decent head and lacing

Very clear strawberry aroma, but more cooked, frozen or jam than fresh but appealing nonetheless.

Flavor: as with the aroma, various forms of strawberries with little else. Sweet but with some tartness. Sweetness seems appropriate to other aspects of the flavor profile.
Near medium body; well-set medium carbonation.

Looks like watered down port wine or a light cherry wine cooler...a faded red color. The head is thin and fleeting with the slightest hint of red.

I don't care for lambic, but I can work with the smell. It's a combination of strawberry and vinegar.

Surprisingly good. I expected a serious pucker but it never happened. It simply tastes like tart strawberries, no offensive vinegar flavor.

No carbonation and no alchol, it really tastes like strawberry juice. No hop presence, no malt backbone, it's simply fruit juice.

Nothing to write home about. It's not good and it's not bad...it's barely a beer.

I poured this 12 oz. (capped and corked) into a Chimay goblet. No freshness date evident.

A: murky, apple cider like color, almost no head with minimal cap and lacing.

S: applesauce and strawberry jam.

T: weird clove-like spiced cider, there is a distinct barnyard flavor that is quite unpleasant, as well as a band-aid flavor (I am guessing this is from bacteria, though I can't be sure if this is from an intentional or unintentional infection) the finish is flat, powdery, and muddy.

M: light bodied, slick to oily texture, low carbonation.

O: this beer is a mess, and is going down the drain. A bucket of yuck.

They were having a Chapeau sale at Sal's Liquors in Addison, IL so I picked up a bunch of flavors to try. $4.99 for all their 375ml corked and capped green bottles (reg. price $5.99). No freshness date.

This one poured a cloudy pink lemonade color with zero head and zero lacing. Not much to look at.

Smells like strawberry jam, but not too overpowering. It is a strawberry lambic, so it''s supposed to smell like strawberries, but I can't smell anything else.

Strawberry jam flavor with sweet tarts added. More sweet than sour, but not syrupy. Enough puckering sourness to make it drinkable, but it could have benefited from the use of more of that funky Belgian yeast flavor.

Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation.

Certainly won't get much of a buzz from this at just 3% alcohol, but can't really drink more than one at a time due the sweetness.

Pours a somewhat cloudy, reddish blonde color. Could not get much head on this beer at all. Thin thin head that developed was white and foamy, but disappeared very quickly. There was virtually no lace on the glass at all. The smell right away is strawberries of course. Not muc other than that smell, except for a hint of an oak, woodsy smell. The flavor was big on the strawberry, and slightly sour. Pretty thin feeling, not much carbonation. It was pretty sweet, so I don't know that it was very drinkable. Overall, an interesting beer. I would have it with dessert, or just as a treat now and then.

Appearance: This beer was actually grayish red. very little head. Opaque.

Smell: what it lacked in appearance it made up for in aroma. Pure strawberry aroma. Smells of fresh jam. Wondeful

Taste: This beer tasted OK. It could use more of an acidic tartness to it to balance out the flavors.

Mouthfeel: Lightly carbonated. More carbonation would be beneficial in this beer.

Drinkability: I would not buy this beer again.

A: The beer is essentially clear yellowish amber in color and has no visible carbonation. It poured with a thin white head that quickly died down, leaving a bit of acing in the center and a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate amount of strawberry aromas are present in the nose.
T: The taste very much follows the smell and is dominated by strawberry flavors that don't really seem that artificial.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a low to moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is a nice and easy drinking lambic. The favor is quite simple, but I liked it because its not sweet.

Poured a somewhat blush shaded cranberry into a tulip. Has thin, slightly off-white head. I'm not sure exactly how old the bottle I have is, but I would estimate mid to late nineties.

Smells exactly like strawberry jam with a very subtle hint of tartness.

Pure strawberry fruitiness with a slight tart bite. Small bit of oaky/corkish flavor.

Fizzy and light, very thin. Tangy finish.

Would be a nice treat on a hot day or with a snack (I'm having mine after work with a plate of samosas) but never somethin I would drink more than one of, or more than one in a....say 72 hour period. If I wanted pop I'd hit up a vending machine.

The pour is a hazy purplish red color with a scant head and scrawny lace. Big over ripe strawberry nose, hints of malt and yeast, sweet and quite appealing. Very sweet start, puny top, sweet and sour finish, no hops to speak of, quite astringent, sweet and sour dry aftertaste. Lindemans has nothing to fear from this brewery, but in all honesty, would be a good after dinner aperitif, instead of Strawberry Cheesecake?

Decent 2 finger head with very nice lacing with a murky reddish color.

Tart strawberry on the nose. Sweet, tart citrusy flavor on the front of the tongue with a little balancing sourness. The strawberry flavor shines through to balance. Hop bitternesss is very low but provides a slight floweriness.

Medium mouthfeel with a slight dry tartness.

Not a bad lambic at all. Not breathtaking, but I like it.

Appearance: Hazy ruby-brown color, with a small dusting of white foam, and scattered, fine lacing.

Aroma: Juicy ripe strawberry notes are prominent, beneath this there is a strong earthy, barnyard note, with fairly assertive horse blanket and wet straw.

Taste: Tangy strawberry notes open the taste, followed by earthy horseblanket and barnyard notes. These typical lambic notes carry to the end of the taste, and even linger on mildly, well past its end.

Mouth feel: Smooth and soft, pleasant, very full.

Drinkability/notes: A very pleasing example, and rare as well, considering that few have attempted to brew a strawberry lambic. Well done.

Sampled as a part of the "Night of Chapeau", with my friend and fellow BA HardTarget.

Pours cloudy brownish red with no head. Smells of sour strawberries and sweet heaven. Taste starts as wonderful strawberries, then degenerates into shoe leather. Seriously. Wow. Burnt and leathery. The mouthfeel has enough carbonation to keep it interesting, with a viscosity that interests me. The drinkability? Depends on whether or not you have a foot fetish.

Serving type: bottle.

Poured a light and hazy brownish orange color with no head. Main aromas and tastes of strawberries (not overpowering). Sweet. I actually like the berries in this. A nice, light dessert beer.

Notes from and tasted on: 08/06/04.

Thanks to Bobby for sharing this one.

A: The pour is a slightly hazy amber sort of color with a small white head.

S: A strawberry jam type of aroma initially but underneath there is some medicinal and chemical notes, along with some cork.

T: This isn't quite as bad as Bootlegger's Pink Funkasaurus, but it's getting there. Bandaids, sugary strawberry bubblegum, and a hint of sourness. There's also some plastic kind of flavor here, but that's not really surprising.

M: The body is on the light end of medium with the carbonation being middle of the road.

D: Do. Not. Want. This was not pleasant at all, and one of the more foul Chapeau lambics.

Chapeau Fraise Lambic

LOOK: Pours a mostly lifeless pale reddish color with very little head but some carbonation rising.

SMELL: An inviting aroma of strawberry marmalade or puree. There is little else to note.

TASTE: Sweet strawberry flavor, twang of tartness, sherry, mild soggy oak. Manages to get just enough of a tang to remain a lambic and not soda, the strawberry flavor is there.

MOUTHFEEL: Light bodied, slightly syrupy and carbonated enough.

OVERALL: A pretty fair lambic. I enjoy strawberry flavored things particularly so this was alright.
