eyes...
fizzy white head that dissipates quickly, red to pinkish hue with some cloudiness, some carbonation streams up, a pretty typical looking kreik.

nose...
at first huge sweetness but underneath is a rich aroma of black cherries, also there is a definite earthiness added by wood tones, way in the back is a tartness as well, this smells tasty.

taste etc...
the wood is first, which almost has a chemical flavor, then you get the big rush of cherries and a finish of sourness/bitterness (along with some more wood), carbonation is subtle sort of "just active" enough. This is light drinking and the body is a testament to that. This is almost like drinking Hawaiian punch with a more tart twist.. and I dig it...

verdict....
not the best kreik on the block but enjoyable. not too aggressive in any category.

Small green bottle, cork and cap. Colorful labels. Pours a nice deep plum color, very cloudy, low carbonation, min. head and some lacing. Nose is very fruity and sweet, cherries very foward. Flavor is pleasantly soft and not overly tart. Cherries, fruit, melon etc etc. This has been a style that has taken some getting used to for me, but I found this stuff to be flavorful and pleasant. Nice with desert. worth trying.

The beer pours a nice red color with a white head. This is a pretty nice looking beer. The aroma is very sweet cherries with a little bit of funk in there. So far so good. The flavor is very sweet. I get a ton of cherry syrup notes with just a tad bit of funk. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. As a fruit beer, this is not too bad - but also not near as good as the Lindemans Kriek. As a lambic, it falls way short.

Hazy reddish sienna color, slightly pink and sugary head of 1/8 of an inch after settling. Some pungent aromas, vinegar as well as cherry. So far -- better than Lindemans. Pretty good dark cherry taste with sweetness, but a slight sense of skins and a sour astringency, too. Fruity finish with some notes of coating properties. Chapeau is pretty widely distributed but I still rate this as one of the more decent and non-sickly sweet renditions of a Lambic that I can get at many stores.

(Served in a flute)

A- This beer pours a deep slightly dense clear cranberry body with a fizzy white head that has a slight pale pink hue to it. There is a sea of microbubbles that glide to the surface.

S- The aroma has an earthy cherry nose with some fresh cut cherry wood branches to follow that impart a green quality and a cherry blossom floral finish that grows as the beer warms.

T- The taste is a bit different than the aroma with a strong cherry throat lozenge favor taking me back to when I was a kid, that coats the mouth. There is a medicinal finish that is a bit acidic and the cherry flavored cough syrup lingers.

M- This beer has a thick mouthfeel with no alcohol heat but a very light pucker to the medicinal mouthfeel.

D- The pleasant aroma is quickly shot down with the cherry medicine in the taste and mouthfeel. It wasn't a drain pour but one is all I will need to drink. I will just resolve to sniff this beer from now on.

Pours a dark, cherry-red. Nice thick, lively pink head. Spotty lacings.

Cherries on the nose. Rather medicinal.

Sour cherry pie. Like cherry sorbet almost. Very tart. A bit of an artificial taste, makes it far too sugary (and I do enjoy krieks). Medicinal notes take away, like a cherry halls.

Mouth feel is good. A little bit more carbonation would be nice to cut through that sweetness a little bit more.

I wouldn't seek this out again, there are better faux krieks out there.

Shared by schen9303. Poured from a 12oz. corked bottle into a Blue Point snifter.

A: Gentle pour yields a 1 finger coarse white head with no retention. Beer itself is a cloudy bright red. Lacing is stringy and spotty with decent cling.

S: Nose is strong cherry and rotting wood. Tickles the nose and is quite aggressive and abrasive.

T: This is a sweet lambic and boy is it sweeet! Cherry syrup throughout and nothing else. Very simple and even though I appreciate simplicity, this is one has a strange cork flavor that is present throughout that bothers me.

M: Light to medium bodied with little carbonation though its not particularly smooth. Slightly watery in the mouth and partially dry with a finish that sticky and slightly spicy.

D: I've appreciated sweet lambics in the past but this one is really not for me. Flavor is weird and the feel doesn't help here. I can't get over the rotten cork flavor in the nose and taste. Pass on this one.

Picked up a 12-pack of 375 bottles from Shangy's for about $55. You might not expect much at first with such a juicy, candy-like cherry aroma, but there's a big sour tang once you gulp down your first sip. The flavor is of sweet cherry juice with a mildy earthy lambic tang in the finish. It's not on par with a good oude kriek, but for a fruit beer, this is respectable.

Very red pour, lighter red head. Doesn't really last too long or lace.

Aroma is yeasty cherry.

Taste is fruitcake, cherry. Not really sure what else there is supposed to be to these simple beers.

Goes down fine, obviously no alcohol. I can't imagine why anyone would want more than one of these though.

Bottle: Poured a deep red color lambic with huge foamy pink color head with some good retention and some lacing. Aroma of sweet cherry syrup is totally dominating with no traces of sourness that I would usually associate with a lambic. Taste is also dominated by sweet cherry syrup which is not bad per se but overall this does not taste like traditional lambic but more like a cheap alcohol-pop. Pretty refreshing for what it is but not something I would have very often.

A: The beer is hazy dark rosé in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a thin white head that quickly died down leaving delicate lacing on the surface and a thick ring of large bubbles around the edge of the glass.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of cherries in the nose.
T: Similar to the smell, flavors of cherries dominate the taste; these are somewhat tart and no sweetness is detectable.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a very light amount of carbonation.
O: The beer is very easy to drink and has a good balance between fruity flavors and tartness. It’s a good representation of the style.

Nose are reminiscent of cherries compote Materne even fruit yoghurts. The texture also makes them think. Big fruity presence with cherries close-up, certainly not too cloying like many other models because not a lot of sugar but too fruity for a lambic. A few very slight acidity in the finish with this always grainy texture of fibers that is reminiscent of stewed fruit. Even better than the Belle-Vue or sudden deaths found in the trade.

Chapeau Kriek vs. Chapeau Lemon. Both into wine glasses. Fridge temp. Kriek - 3.50% abv, 250mL bottles.

The kriek is blood red, translucent, nice ivory collar, a few clouds.

Nose is funky, medicinal, syrupy sweet. Not really all that cherry-like.

Huge carbonation. Super sweet palate, finishes drier, which is nice. Sourness takes second fiddle. A hint of maltiness. The cherries are more realistic here, but still very 'juicy' and cough syrupy.

Not terrible, but not great.

Appearance: Slightly hazy ruby color, with a small, slightly pink head, which leaves scattered lacing on the glass walls.

Aroma: Sweet cherry notes, paired with, as strange as it seems, a note of hand lotion. The aroma is more like perfume than fruit. This characteristic is rather off-putting.

Taste: Sweet cherry peel and pit notes at the open, followed by a sweet, somewhat syrupy note. Finishes with a mild sour hay and earth note.

Mouth feel: Smooth and full, quite pleasant.

Drinkability/notes: A pleasant example of a fruit lambic, not superb, but quite decent.

Sampled as a part of the "Night of Chapeau", with my friend and fellow BA HardTarget.

This one pours bright red almost crimson with a pink fluffy froth that dies down to a thin ring. The aroma is cherry pie filling, a bit of funky yeast, some hay, but it is mostly cherry. Tastes up front of very sweet cherries and at points becomes almost cough syrupy, with flavours of very sweet maraschino cherry. In the middle, there are some funky yeasty flavours that lead to sour cherry finish right towards the end. I think this beer would benefit from having the sweetness toned down a bit, and there would be potential for a good Kriek, but as it stands now, it is just too damn sweet.

drank from a church brew works flute...purchased at Vintage in a bottle

A-Typical lambic, not much head, deep ruby red.

S--Fruity and sweet smell

T--Like candy, cherry tart flavor.

mf--carbonation and fizz

D--Not that bad, my girlfriend likes it well enough...worth a try if you like fruit beer.

Thanks to Bobby for sharing this one.

A: The pour is a cloudy reddish color with a small pinkish head.

S: Sweet cherry candy on the nose along with the certain musty character that all these beers seem to have. Only a hint of acid, which is par for the course.

T: A very appropriate descriptor for this beer is Luden's Cough Drops (those sugary "cough drops" that are really just glorified candy). Heavily sweetened dark cherry flavor. While it's quite sweet, I actually enjoy it.

M: The body is medium with a moderate level of carbonation.

D: I hate to say it, but this was actually pretty good. I would not mind having this one again.

This beer pours a bright ruby color. The head is small, and recedes within seconds into no lacing. The aroma is of cherries with a hint of sourness. The taste is like the aroma, but without any trace of sourness. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, with adequately low carbonation, and a velvety texture. Overall, this is a decent sweet kriek lambic. It is drinkable, but would be a lot more interesting if it had some sort of classic lambic tartness, and sourness.

A: Red with a pink head which fades to a ring of big bubbles that leaves a little leg/lace.

S: Cough-syrup is my first thought. Even though they actually use cherries, the aroma is seems artificial. A sweet & sour cherry aroma.

T: Cherry candies, slight tartness, some residual sweetness, cotton-candy with only hints of funk.

M: Light body has a light tartness with an off-dry finish.

D: Approachable & fairly drinkable. Almost a malternative.

Pours dark red, full of small carbonation bubbles, with thin reddish head that fades rather fast and stays as a patchy layer, scarce patchy downsliding lacing. Aroma is nicely sour and acidic cherry. Taste is dominated by sweet cherry and only lightly acidic in the finish. Medium body with high carbonation.

Overall, not bad. However, there are better cherry lambics out there.
