Had on draft at the brewpub. The appearance is about what you would expect from a brown ale, with no real characteristics standing out.
The taste is more surprising to me. Though a little on the thin side, I enjoyed this beer. Slightly bitter, a little sweet, and notes of chocolate and earthy nuttiness.
I found this beer to be very drinkable, and knocked back two with ease.

On tap in Blacksburg
A- pours a maroon color with a small creamy white head, short retention but leaves some lacing behind as it settles
S- some toasted cereal grain, a touch of sweet caramel malt, woodsy, overall pretty faint
T- sweet caramel flavors up front with some dark fruit notes, a bit bready, sweet finish with more caramel. Overall pretty light on the flavor
M- medium body and carbonation, foamy mouthfeel
O- non-offensive and pretty light for the style. Not the best choice for a craft drinker but would suit the light lager drinking crowd

First had: on tap at the Blacksburg pub
Reddish-brown pour, clear, with a small layer of off-white bubbles on top. Basic aroma of caramel malts and not much else. Taste was, again, basic, no surprises, caramel malts, nutty, toasted grains. Not bad, not great. Light-medium body, average carb, standard stuff all around.

Poured from a growler into a 14 oz "pint" glass. Pours a dark red with a small white head that dissipates quickly but leaves some lacing. Smells of some dark roasted malt and slight nuttiness, but nothing strong. Tastes of dark roasted malt with little bits of nuts and very slight hop bite. Beer is carbonated correctly and for its light body goes down smooth as it should. Overall, a slightly above average beer.

Tried this as part of the Bulls & Bones Beer sampler....
3 oz sample
A: Name fits the look... Very clear with a Maroon, bronze like color... Good head and very nice lacing
S: Malt, with a hint of chocolate and caramel... Very nice
T: Smell and taste are dead on.... a little bitter chocolate and a nice splash of caramel...
M: Med to full bodied.... creamy and smooth
D: This is my favorite so far... I could knock a few of this back with ease.

A clear light mahogany color with a thin fuzzy off-white head and fair lacing. The aroma is charcoal brown sugar with a hint of ham and some vague chocolate. Interesting but a bit weak. The taste comes off less interesting but is a more pronounced peppery wheat. I get very little of the advertised chocolate caramel malt explosion. This is quite fizzy, a bit thin (as fizzy beers so often seem to be) with an anemic swamp malt personality. It's not terrible at all, but too whimpy and watery for me. Needs more flavor and body. It's somewhat drinkable but I wouldn't want too many at this level of flavor. 20 ibu.
