Pretty cool little place fairly close to the 55 turnoff to Telluride.
The building facade and interior are really nice and appear to be a modern take on an old-style building. Everything is done in wooden decor, with 4 tables, a bar, and a small barrier where brewing equipment is housed. There are several tables around the building as well. Looks a lot like a coffee bar at first glance.
There's a chalkboard with all of the beer selections and even a fairly unusual sight, a wine list, too. This evening they had a blonde, an Irish red, an ESB, an alt, and a porter. As as bonus, each beer was available as both a pint or 1/2 pint...which is an option I wish everyone had. I tried everything except the blonde and all were absolutely excellent. The alt, porter, and red in particular were about as good as you'll find anywhere. While the styles might be ordinary, these were very good takes on them with tons of flavors, big hops when appropriate, and no off flavors at all.
Prices were normal to low: $2 1/2 pints, $3.50 pints, and a pretty amazing $7 growler!
They have free popcorn and the option for panini sandwiches, which seemed good although we'd already eaten.
If I lived in the area I'd be in here all of the time. The place looks great, the beer is excellent (and affordable), and the staff was friendly as well.
Yet another spot on the western slope that really impressed me!

This is a great brewery, right on the corner in downtown Ridgway. I've been here several times, and always enjoy what is on tap. I've had everything that they brew and am never disappointed. They have won awards for a few of their beers. I'd recommend ordering a flight of samples and go with the one you like best. Great atmosphere as the brewery/pub is in an old building with good character. They have a basic food menu with just sandwiches, and free popcorn. Check it out, you'll be happy you did, but FYI they close early...9pm.

So I finally made it to Ridgway and visited Colorado Boy Pub and Brewery.

After everything the impression I left with was 'this place is certainly not all about the beer.' I am impressed with the marketing basics, i.e. logos, merchandise and the basic/accessible recipes for the beers.

The beers, I tried some of all four, lack Carbonation (I was told the brewer does this because he likes people to taste the beers. Understandable but the beer is not all that so the fizz would really help) and complexity. None of the beer is bad, it is just not full of love and joy.

As for the place, it is nice. Colors are good and the back-bar is beautiful and historic (though the hooks installed to hang merch seem a bit of a sacrilege). I thought it was really nice until I took a closer look and the finish work started to stick out. I know they weren't building a showpiece but the lack of polish and the cut corners make a bigger impression than the beers.

All in all I would say the place is worth a visit if you are on the way by but not if you have to make a trek to get there.

PS I was told that the brewery will be adding a 'firkin @ five' some day a week. That could be really cool so call them for more info.
