IBG opened quietly in late 2008 in a small "town center" retail location at SR 54 and the Veterans Expwy. This is a growing area but all that growth stalled when the real estate market crashed a few years back. Nonetheless, the several times I've been there they have attracted a pretty good crowd, particularly since it's mostly through word of mouth that people would find it.

It reminds me very much of The World Of Beer (bar) in Westchase. It's in a well appointed place with about 40 drafts and another 350 or so in the bottle. Both lists offer some very nice choices. The draft menu features lots of more unusual selections and avoids any macro swill and even the more mainstream craft beers. All beers are served in proper glassware, and the staff is friendly and relatively knowledgeable about their beers. As a bonus, the prices seem to me to be very reasonable; more so than many other places that seem to charge a premium when they have good beer selections.

My only criticism is of their food selection. The menu is limited to some cheese and cracker plates, soft pretzels and pizzas. Although I have not tried the food, based on appearance it would seem they do not have anything near a real kitchen. To me, you either go all the way with a full food menu or you do what World of Beer does and allow your patrons to bring food from one of the many surrounding restaurants. Bottom line, there's not much more than snacks, so if you're hungry eat before you go.

Overall, IBG is a welcome addition to the Tampa beer scene. Not too long ago it would have been unfathomable to imagine a place of this caliber on the outskirts of town. Gotta love that those days are gone and places like this are starting to actually become somewhat commonplace.

One other note, the Tampa/St Pete Beerfly Guide needs to be updated to include "Lutz" as part of the Tampa Metro area. This is a constant flaw of the guides - places like this are left off just because they have a mailing address of a suburb that isn't included in the list of such associated communities.
